Lady Kathleen of Olmsted

The Chaucer Coat is comong along and ready for the faux fur to be cut and sewn on.

The coat front.

The Back

The slashed sleeves

The coat is made of an Ultra Suede I purchased at SR Harris a few weeks ago. Underlined with a Quilter's Broadcloth to give the suede body and to keep it from stretching out of shape. Embossed with cresent moons to give the fabric some texture. I also bought faux fur that resembles Persian Lamb. Anyone who has seen the film 'A Knight's Tale', know what I am talking about.

Love that movie... and love the coat.  Though I do remember Chaucer tended to to lose his clothing to gambling debts - I wonder if he ever wore anything UNDER his nice coat?   ;D

In the latter scenes for the Jousting Tournament in London, Chaucer wore a tunic type shirt and suede pants.

I have the collar attached and working on the fur front panels.

I have all the fur pieces on the coat. I had done some and tore them out because they looked to wide. All I have to do now is whip stitch the fur, go over and clip all threads, wipe it down witha  clean wshcloth of excess fur, then get it shipped out.

Finished photos will follow.

The 1890's gored skirt. I have yet to sew on the snaps at the waist and back seam placket.

This is a project for me while I have a bit of "down" time. I have yet to assemble the bodice, which will be underlined in one layer of canvas duck for body.

The fabric is a Poly Taffeta in a deep burgandy with Velveteen embossed flowers. Underlined in Cotton Broadcloth in a similar color for body. I bought the Taffeta last year at JoAnn's after a Halloween Sale for 60% off. I bought the rest of the bolt, which was 8 yards.

The rouching at the hem was a last minute idea to give the skirt a more period look. The rouching are 2" tall strips, rolled hemmed serged, 1 1/2" Box pleats that were stitched 5/8" from the edge, then finished with a 3/8" wide Gimp. I will have the same rouching on the Bodice when I get that made.
I also have Black Lace fabric to make the Underblouse.

The effect is Victorian Goth. The skirt pattern...http://www.lafnmoon.com/gore.htm

The bodice is just about finished. I ran out of Black thread. I need to do the buttonholes yet and sew in the buttons. Then on to the Black Lace Blouse to wear underneath for that Steampunk look.

My wife picked up all the leftovers of this material last season too. I think it was a great buy. Actually, she got all the red, silver/gray and black they had left. She made pirate coats for the girls with it this year.

Here's two of the girls with Captain Greybeard at MIRF.

Well I have finally started working on my pirate coat since Pirates in Paradise is in 3 weeks.

The material is a bit flashy but I fell in love with it- it is a curtain panel that I paid $8 for in the spring.

What do you guys think of this ribbon for the button details??

I'm going to line it with some plain dark red cotton for comfort and to give it some weight, its south Florida so it can't be too heavy otherwise I wont wear it. The sleeve reverse is going to be black flat velvet- a 1/2yd remnant I got for $2.50 at Joann's on Monday. I wanted to do a trim along the edges but I'm afraid that anything other than a flat black ribbon would just be too much going on.

I was originally going to do a nice and frilly justacorps but it was going to make my rear end look even bigger than it already is.
