It is so true that you give gifts you would like to recieve.   My gift to my Ewan this year was a weekend beer pilgrimage - first four hours to the north on Saturday for an afternoon/evening at Dogfish Head http://www.dogfishalehouse.com/, then three hours south to Capital Ale house http://www.capitalalehouse.com/ before completing the triangle back at home and finishing with some Wee Heavy at home.   Hm.... I think I am looking more forward to it than he... Hooty Hoo!

I've made blackberry beer. It took a couple of weeks longer than normal for the beer to age, but in the end it was really good.

Try some Rogue Brewery "Double Dead Guy Ale".  Very delicious indeed!

Double dead guy is wonderful - though they only had jerobaums for 80 bucks at the local store over the holidays - hubby didn't get that.  Part of the beer mecca trip will be a stop at a "real" store to stock up on Old Chub, Founders Breakfast Stout (my current fav), Double Dead Guy ..... and other lovely things we can't get in our little burg.  Of course, if there is any room after we raid dogfish head for Midas, Old School -  Oh, I can't wait for Saturday...  I mean, ahem, I am sure my HUSBAND is excited....

We have been enjoying an English red ale called "Insanely Bad Elf" for the last month or so. This beer is well blended in flavor and smooth, making it a good sipper & slammer with just a right bit of alcohol to take the chill out of old man winter. I also couldn't even tell it was 11% until I looked at the bottle and then I stood up ....

No designated driver - hotels in both places within walking distance.  That's the part that is the gift to me!   I love good beer, and the one thing about current microbrew (and wine) trends I don't like is the high alcohol content.  I don't think it adds anything to the taste, and in some cases takes away from it (the Guinness 250 is an excellent example).   Although it tastes wonderful, the dogfish head Old school is 15%  - (ok, but it is REALLY wonderful).    Capital Ale lists the ABV - so we can consciously stay away from the high ones and concentrate on tasting more - I am hoping dogfishhead does the same. 

We have the Troegs Insanely Bad Elf here in the stores - I just stayed away because I had a bad experience with an earlier Troegs - but on your suggestion I'll give it a try (you haven't steered me wrong before, I do believe you are my Old Chub resource!).... Now on to Saturday!

This is where I go and have been going since 97' http://www.selinsgrovebrewing.com/, I live about 20 minutes from it.

I love micro-brew beer and have tried many, many, many....I will put up Selins Grove against the best. In 07' they were voted 9th in the "Best Places to have a Beer in North America."

I try not to tell to many people about the place anymore, I don't want it to get too crowded..

Make the trip, you won't regret it..
