Bought a pattern for a fairy dress. The pattern calls for satin and I'm using cotton. The dilemna is it calls for hemming the dress and not the layers. Can I get away with not hemming the layers ? The pattern is a mccalls 5904. Input would be appreciated, thank you.
Life is what you make of it, so just have fun.

Honestly,
being that its for a little fae, I would say its up to you.
The cotton may fray a little especially if you don't cut it on the bias, but I've never seen a fae thats all neat and tidy.

I think it all depends on how much is it going to show and how much you care.

It depends on the look you are going for.
One thing to think about- hemmed garments last longer, especially if they have to be washed.

Rather than hemming, maybe some bias tape around the petals?

Would putting some fray check or seam sealant possibly work?  I know I use it for little jobs and here and theres.  But I wonder if it would work for that as well.

By "layers," do you mean all the skirt petals and such?

What about pinking them? It won't totally eliminate fraying, but it looks like they may be cut on the bias anyway, so the fraying will go way down anyway.

Of course, if you decide you *want* to hem the skirt bits, none of us is going to stop you. LOL
