OK, I am working with this pattern.
http://www.reddawn.net/costume/chemise.htm

For the body am I cuting one piece or 2? I don't understand the diagram and the instructions are only confusing me more. The measurement directions are given on the shirt pattern here.
http://www.reddawn.net/costume/shirt.htm

I measured shoulder bone to shoulder bone (15) x2 =30. 30 inches does not go around my waist. So if it is 2 pieces (=60") then it works. Then the diagram looks like it is marked into 3rds at the "top". Is that supposed to be my shoulders? The chemise pattern has different directions for the sleeve attachment, I just need to make sure I'm in the right place.

Can someone clear this up for me, PLEASE?

You're cutting 2 body pieces, yes. Hope this helps! ;D

Have you looked at the directions for the shirt ( http://www.reddawn.net/costume/shirt.htm )?  Follow the first three sections of directions (take measurements, select your fabric, and get started) then go back to the chemise page and follow the directions on that page.

Ultimately, you will be cutting out 4 pieces - 1 piece of the left sleeve, 1 piece for the right sleeve, 1 piece for the front of the body, and 1 piece for the back of the body.  The 2 sleeve pieces will be cut the same, and the 2 body pieces will be cut the same.

(sorry, I have to run out the door, but if you need more help, just say so, and I'll check back later)  :)

Hope this helps somewhat!

The directions just are not clear to me. Because somewhere under Getting Started it says something about a fold . I cut 2 on a fold and it is WAY to much fabric. So time to recut.  :P Good thing I boungt the whole bolt.  ::)

Depending on how long you want your chemise, it's going to be a lot of fabric.  When you're wearing it alone, it should be billowy.

Your shoulder measurment (the width of your body pieces) should be from the end of one shoulder all the way across to the end of your other shoulder.  The top of your body pieces is where they are saying to put the fold.  You don't have to do this, unless it makes it easier for you to cut.

I used that pattern for my chemise- you are cutting 4 pieces.  Best of luck!  =)

Remember also that you are gathering all that excess fabric at the shoulders. So, yes: you SHOULD look like you have far, far more width than you need.

Jessi

What I originally did was to cut 2 body pieces with "A" on the fold. So instead of it being 60" wide it was 120" wide. But I cut "B" short (40") because I just wanted a top not a full chemise. So to keep this as a usable piece I just turned the material sideways. It is still plenty wide and it comes to my ankles. Now that I understand the pattern I will go back and make the top I wanted. Thanks!

If you already have the fabric, it doesn't hurt to have an extra chemise laying around.  The long ones are nice when it's chilly outside :)

If you read the shirt instructions, you'll see that the pattern is drafted for use with 45" wide fabric, not 60" wide. So yes, you did have an extra 30" there you weren't supposed to!
