I know this is a bit off topic, but I thought I'd let any of the Houston area crew that are Sci-Fi fans know that our local convention, ApolloCon, is  coming up this weekend. It's a three day event- June 25th-27th 2010 at the DoubleTree Hotel near the Houston Intercontinental Airport.

More info;  http://www.apollocon.org/index.html

I'll be on hand hosting the Starbase Houston Trivia Challenge on Saturday afternoon, so if you have some Sci-Fi trivia skills come on down and try for one of these cool thophies!

Tell your friends, Come on out and get your geek on! It's too hot outside anyways!

Do people dress up for this, like other Cons?

Yeah, I learned about the various Con's in this area after TRF last year..it's to abate the withdrawl certain people have from having to go back into the 'Dane world. Myself included. I have list of the Con's that were posted on the boards or if you feel up to archive diving, I am sure it is still floating on here somewhere.

As for dressing up for this con..why not? It's a con. Even if you are the only one, and I doubt it, more power to you..but it's a sci con, you know you won't be the only one, but probably among the hottest. I think I am going as a Brown Coat myself.

Jawesome!

My bffgf and I have decided to go as Buffy and Faith. I really wanted the bf to come with and go as Dr. Horrible and us be Penny and groupies, but he's too shy to actually show off his nerdiness...hence me bringing Lauren as my date and costume-other half instead. Plus...two Joss Whedonites are better than one!

Annd YAYYY for Brown Coats! Mad props to you, sir. I've been meaning to catch up on old episodes that i've missed and re-watch the series :D I'm actually doing that right now with Buffy..go figure <3

Zardoz! I will make sure we stop by your area on Sat if I can remember to..i'll be the one flitting about like a n00b because we will probably get lost >.< lol. But..what better place to get lost than a Sci Fi Con!?

Are any of y'all going to the masquerade that night too? We are thinking about it but not sure if we have to have an ubercostume/outfit to do so? As Buffy/Faith...we won't exactly be that dressed up lol -_-"

"We do the weird stuff" Have you watched Commentary: The Musical on Dr. Horrible DVD yet? I highly recommend it if you do end up going as the groupies.

Will attempt to remember to stop by Saturday Zardoz

A few items of note here-

A) Mouse, if you need any "field gear", let me know via PM and I'll see what I can hook you up with. All of my hardware is real, though, so they won't be welcome at a con, but I have plenty of other gear.

B) I wish I could go, but my little brother is in town this weekend, which means Operator's Edge, the range, the gaming store, and playtesting till dawn. I shall have no life.

C) Juju, your new pic broke my brain, in a good way, and I am trying my damnedest to be a gentleman about it, but I cannot help but let one "SWEET MOTHER OF THE GODS!" escape in appreciation. Apologies :)

D) I have never dressed up for a con before in my life. Sounds odd considering I work at a ren faire, but it's never really been an option. Still, if I did, I have no idea what I would dress as *shrugs*

I'll be there as a vendor (right inside the door) - DVDs, books, and jewelry.

Dressing up: I've been there the last 2 years and have seen people dressed up.

Dr Horrible Commentaries: there are 2 different DVDs - an Amazon exclusive version that has 45 minutes worth of extra features, and a different version that has 90 minutes of extra features (for a 45 minute show).

LOL!

Well I'm sorry for breaking your brain! I hope it gets well soon ;) I appreciate the appreciation! Annd..apologies accepted, but no need for them, really. It's better to hear "Sweet Mother Of The Gods" than "Oh Dear God..My EYES! My EYES! I can't get that image out of my head- It's like a trainwreck! AhhhEeeee!!" Or something horrifying as such..lol. (Not saying that I've had that reaction...but that would obviously be a horrible thing to have to hear lol.)

And that is crazy talk.. a Rennie not knowing what to dress as! Heck, you could proabably even wear Garb to a con like this..it is a Sci-Fi /Fantasy / Horror themed Con, and Fantasy seems pretty well meshed with Garb for the most part!

And did I hear men in kilts will be there!! YAYYY!!! I'd better not tell Lollie (my 'date" aka Buffy for the day)...she will go NUTS! Lol..get it...Nuts? Puns...good stuff.. :D

Well, I've been told I should go as everything from a barbarian to Batou from Ghost in the Shell to Briareos from Appleseed *shrugs*

You go as Briareos and I shall bow to your king nerdom for the rest of my days...seriously. I will send a cheese basket or something. Just Batou is easy..just get some metal for your eyeballs.

Did see JuJu I think in the hall with her friend as Buffy and Faith. Did not see Zardoz, likely due to all the panels I went to.

Also, leave it to me to go to a Science Convention and come home with 3 Ren Faireish CDs.
