So with the excitement of moving into a new apartment next week, my lord and I want to get a grill.
Its been killing both of us living in crazy apartments that dont allow grills.
We have a budget of about $200 and plan on using the grill at the very least 2-4 days a week.
We have been looking at home depot and the only thing in our budget is the brinkman brand buy I hate their grill plates, they are these wide horrible looking things that have a flimsy finish on them that was already coming off in the store.

I was appalled to see that anything remotely decent is in the $700 range and up.
As far as requirements- propane is a must, it has to have a side burner (for flambeing, boiling water during hurricanes etc), a rotisserie burner would be nice but not a must.
So, any suggestions??

Not trying to be a smart-arse, but you might want to wait and increase your budget...

Lady Christina,
unfortunately there are no Krogers in south Florida.
We are going to be doin recon this weekend at Lowes, WalMart, Costco and Sears.
If that comes up fruitless well I guess we will have to wait to get one.

Its still ridiculous what they are asking for grills- the same grills that were $400 3 or 4 years ago

Have you looked into Craigs list? I have a friend that just bought a nearly new pool table for $200. Its worth around $1500. You never know what you two might find.

You will have to wait until the off season to get a decent quality grill for under 300$...if you're lucky.
We got a Char broil with your specs (stainless steel) 3 years ago at Big Lots for 240$, that is falling apart (rusted) in the fire box, mostly because we use it 2-4 times per week and propane is VERY corrosive.
If you have to have one now you will probably have to settle for a cheapee,  and just replace it every couple years (depending on your usage) or until you can afford a good quality grill.
Actually the only grill I've ever owned that lasted more than 4 years was a Weber. and that was a charcoal grill.

That's a good option too.  A co-worker of mine was gifted with a slightly used $1500 grill (would be too big for your deck) for a wedding present and sold it on Craigs list for $500.  It was too big for his condo, had a fridge and everything ^_^.

Unless you plan to smoke a lot of brisket or pulled pork, you can grill anything you need to on a Weber kettle. The big one runs about $120 and comes with charcoal seperators so you can cook with flame or on indirect heat. I mostly used a Weber kettle at home for the last 6 years and I cook everything from steaks to jerk pork skewers.

I happened to scan past this on QVC. It looks to be of decent quality and certainly a good price. Maybe?

The Pink Pirate was really wanting one and belive or not the one we got was under 200 at home depot.  It had much higher reviews than many of the 300+ ones.  It's only down fall is that it doesn't have hooks to hang your tools.   ::)  After all the cook outs and other insanity that we have had this summer it has been great.  I'll try to get the name of it for you.
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

I will definitely third the craigslist suggestion!  I have gotten so many things there, in excellent condition, for so very much less than retail, and many things in new, or so nearly new you can't tell the difference, condition that it just can't be beat for value!  Just got something awesome day before yesterday, in fact!!!  :D

Thank you all for actually reading this :)
I think we got lucky
we found a great looking grill that has everything I want (minus the rotisserie) for $199 at home depot and they will assemble it for free.
We found it last weekend but since  the move is actually this weekend we figured it would be ridiculous to bring it home just to have to load it onto the uhaul.

When we go pick it up I will post a picture :)

Have you checked local regulations?  Many cities do not allow grills in apartments.

Actually that was on our top ten list when we were looking for a new apartment.
They are allowed in our zone and more specifically in our complex so we are good to go.

Thanks for the heads up though, when I first moved out on my own 3 years ago I had no idea you couldn't have a grill in some places- spent the whole of the 3 years pining for one.

Last Summer, the apartments where I live here in Houston banned tenant-owned outdoor grills (due to fire hazards & insurance costs), and installed some charcoal grills in the public areas of the complex, but none are near my building.  Since all the guys I work with have big, fancy grills, I was unable to give away my small single-burner propane grill, so it got thrown away.  At Thanksgiving, my parents brought me a Farberware Model 45x "Open Hearth" Rotisserie (indoor electric grill) that they found practically new, and possibly unused at a Garage Sale.  It works great for the steaks and porkchops that get grilled when they visit me.
