Why be mundane when you can be a Rennie?!

Now back onto topic, i really need to head to JoAnns and Micheal's (possibly ipso facto if its till open). I went to good will and savers and found nothing even remotely useable but did manage to loose my ray-bans there, d'oh! Anyone know a good place to get brass googles for cheap or how to make them? I am spending alot more on this than i thought i would, and yet, i have no buyers remorse!  ;D

If you don't mind painted plastic, you can get welding goggles for between $6-$10 and paint and modify them yourself.  I made these for the World Steam Expo last May for my arcansit outfit.

Here's a good selection at a reasonable price.

Me...I'd wear a monacle! Like my faire hoops I figure how often does one get the chance to wear one of those. :)

Anna, I would love to find a really neat monocle, but I've priced them and they seem kind of high, even on eBay!  It would be fun to Steam one up, though...  ;)

Now that I have taken up leatherworking, I might have to look into the Steampunk Genre again.  I'm sure I can cobble up something.  Utility bandolier for instance.

I'm thinking of going Steamy at my first day out to fest this year, only cause I've yet to wear my new corset for more than 10 minutes at a time.

*thinking*

Hmmm, no new pictures recently, though my ray-gun build is almost complete. It would be complete if I could find my stupid heat gun so I can re-shape the one plastic piece I have, I just hope I don't need to buy a new one.

I don't know what prices you were looking at, but I'd say these are fairly decently priced.

Oooooh! An xray monocle. Kind of a steampunk version of the ren kilt check.  :D

I have absolutly no outfit for this, and no event in site, but I want one all the same.

There are many places where compromise is expected;
LOYALTY is not amongst them.

Well, $15-17 for a simple monocle is really way out of my price range, and the $20 x-ray one particularly so... especially when I've run across them at yard sales and in junk shops for a dollar or so (before I ever even heard of Steampunk), but the miniature Inspectors Lens for around $6 looks promising, and could be Steamed up a bit, I think.  Not sure they had that the last time I checked out that page...

For a while there Walmart kept getting monocles which was very odd. I imagine as soon as halloween rolls around it would be fairly easy to find some in expensive ones. Ebay has a ton on their Buy Now section for under $10.

So many googles this is going to be a tough one to figure out! I am almost positive I want the more oval ones. My jodhpurs did come in the other day and i think they fit...frankly i am not really sure what looks right and what doesn't but seeing as this is my frankenstien i figure i can just tinker till i like it.

If anyone wants to check it out, the current issue of Fairy Magazine (Fairie?  not sure how they spell it) has a feature on Steampunk and Steampunk fairies.  I didn't read it in detail, but when I was briefly flipping through the magazine at the bookstore it looked like it was kinda cool.

That's the beauty of Steampunk, Becky... it can be whatever you imagine!

That sounds like it could be interesting, Elennare!  I wonder if it's online...

(edit)
Oh, ouch!  I did find Faerie Magazine, but it wouldn't let me look specifically at the most recent issue, except for the cover.  It's a bit steep, but the next time I'm in the bookstore I'll try to remember to at least look through it!

Yep, that's the one!  I was thinking about buying it (because it also had a picture of one of the most amazing fairy tops I have ever seen, and I am going to steal that idea for a costume in the future), but the ratio of adds to content was way too high for me.  Especially for the price of the thing.

Definately worth looking at, though, if you find it in a book store or a library. :)
