Aye Taffy., have seen them also. I don't play a noble at faire so i am thinking about the same
lines if Steampunk ever comes to Syracuse area.While not a pilot i have the gadget and electronics
thing under my belt since the mid 70's so i got that covered. Have a few laser pistol designs in my
head with functional helium neon laser tubes, they look real cool lit up kinda a pinkish orange even
if i have the beam end closed off. So Ray Gun is done, hehe.

But is he a bit of a gentleman inventor, or is he piloting for profit?   More interested in knowledge and exploration, perhaps, or finding ways to make money with his inventions?  A bit absent minded when focused on his work, to the exclusion of everything else, or sharp and out to make his mark on the world?  To me, a bowler says upper-middle class Absentminded Inventor, a top hat says Gentleman Inventor, both of which would be fun to play as a bit distracted...  The other two types of cap would say to me either military background or serious pilot/profiteer more than inventor.  

Oh, and for either type you could carry a small journal filled with mathematical formulas in one of your pockets with some sort of cool steamy fountain pen for jotting down sudden inspiration, or drawing plans for some new invention!  Maybe carry a mini folding brass T square and protractor for those unexpected squaring and/or arcing emergencies... and a magnifying glass, of course (just in case you need to heat up your lunch, you know)!    I can picture various small apothecary bottles attached to your belt with strange liquids and powders in them, preferably something that can cause an actual, although harmless, chemical reaction when mixed together...  Oh, or a miniature chemistry set packed into some sort of hard-sided pouch (like the old field glasses case I found last year, maybe)!  Of course, all the instruments for measuring wind velocity, direction and airspeed, as well, and the ever-so-handy brass sextant...

You have a shop at your disposal, along with a great deal of creativity, so it shouldn't be too very difficult for you to fabricate a few really interesting accessories to illustrate your character!  Have fun, and take pictures, please!!!

It's is a British Officers Cap for a service dress uniform, stiff peak.  Would be a good gentleman inventor/explorer in the service of the Crown type hat. Kind of military, but not totally. May have a small detachment of soldiers aboard the ship to command.

Thanks, Crashbot.  I combed through eBay & found a black surplus cap for cheap with mystery color piping (the picture has white, but color may vary) which will look nifty with my Jagermonster badge.   Oooh, and I have some neat skull beads that will make a great top button!  Yay, new hat!

Edit:  And it's BLACK!  My favorite!!!

reverse engineering stuff or making things work together that should not is me to a T.
I have an cool old pair of 1940's safety glasses with mesh metal side wings, need some
eye loops for sure on them. Your making it far to easy for me to develop a character.
And my dirigable would be my transport to get to the next great thing and take it apart.
Have to mix abit of tech type pirate in there somehow.

You almost nailed me in real life, love learing abit about whatever i can tech wise, and
reverse engineering stuff or making things work together that should not is me to a T.
I have an cool old pair of 1940's safety glasses with mesh metal side wings, need some

Well, we have chatted a bit, and I already kind of knew about your tendency to get distracted by your latest toy, gadget or project...    heheh  I actually have a little something that would be perfect for your SP character, so if you'll renmail me your address (because I lost the box you sent me the mini-mug in during the recent move) I'll finish it up and send it along to you! 

Oh, and I love it when people asks for ideas!  I have all sorts of them just wandering around in my head, waiting for the right question to bring them out!    Oh, and speaking of fitting in piracy... you could be traveling around searching for either something that was stolen from you by Tech Pirates, or looking for some legendary device you've heard rumors of, but have never been able to confirm (Golden Compass type thing, maybe).  Maybe something like "Honest Inventor set upon by Foul And Perfidious Pirates, out to recover The Most Amazing Invention EVER"... which could explain your presence amongst the SkySharks, or any other band of Aether Pirates you happen to encounter!  You could have a great time coming up with the backstory for this character!!!
