I have to make some ring belts, bracers, and a waist cinch out of this Butterick pattern 5371. It calls for synthetic leather, paper-backed fusible webbing, sew-in interfacing, and I've never used these before. Searching the net shows a leather needle and possibly a teflon presser foot might be best for the fabric.

Is there an alternative, cheaper "look-alike" to pleather?  How is it sold?  They're saying "remnants" that are 22" x 13 1/2" for the fabric and 22" x 13 1/2" for the "felt".  I didn't see where it called for "felt".. maybe that's the lining underneath?  What material is best for that?

I would just go with real leather.  Look on Google for a local leather shop.  You should be able to buy scraps for a good price.  And then you don't have to mess with all of the extras! :D

Pricing grommet/eyelets, I'm thinkin' the world's gone crazy! $8 for 10!?? Ugh. I would've thought something like those would be a $1 or something. Boy was I wrong! :(

Tandy Leather Factory

A lot better prices and you can get your leather there too!  ;D
So what are you doing this weekend?
I'm going to BARF!!!
You're going to...wait...WHAT???

I suggest Tandy Leather also.  And if you go to a local store, they usually have a great selection of scrap pieces

One can also use various Vinyls that come in different textures, designs, and colors if leather is unabtainable..

If you don't have a tandy leather place near you, Hobby lobby and michaels both carry some tandy leather products...leather, tools, and such. That would save you on shipping at least...
Things are shaping up to be...
Pretty. Odd.

No way!  Where did you go?  Try Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby.  Are you sure you weren't looking at the kit that includes the tool?  The tool is the cost.  After that just buy the grommets separately.

I'm definitely going to Tandy then Hobby Lobby or something because you're right. And it was just the eyelets at the Joann Fabric in Houston off 290. Ridiculous. I ain't payin' it. :P
