Ghawazee Coat Question

I want to make a Ghawazee coat but don't have a pattern AND I want to make it a bit different.  I have a good idea of how to piece it together.  What I am wondering is what is the difference, construction wise, between a bodice and an underbust bodice?  If it's basically the same, minus the bust area of course , I'm good to go!  I do want the bodice to have shoulder straps.  Same style as the typical coat.  Should I know anything particular about placing the straps?  What I want to try is making the bodice and then attaching panels along the bottom for the "skirting".

OK, I think I figured out something better!  The coat shape is very reminiscent of the medieval style dress.  I think I will start with that pattern!

Yes the form is like a medieval dress, but make sure to scoop the neck line deeply

I find that when making an underbust bodice or corset, it can be a good idea to make it push the bust up a bit. This makes it should not go too long under the bust, but rather hug the lower part of ones "ladies", especially at the sides. I'm sure it varies on ones size and whatnot - if they are too large, it might be unpleasant to wear. But

JoAnns's has 50% off brocade and sari fabric until Oct. 30!  I bought 4 yrds for my ghawazee coat and a choli top, $20.  It's a black on black pattern.  I hope I can at least start on it this week.  With Halloween this weekend (biggest holiday of the year for us!  We have a huge yard haunt and give candy out to 450+ kids!) I will barely be able to fit it in.

So it wasn't until after Halloween but I finished the coat and choli!  I wore them at my dance studio's student salon last night.  Everyone loved the coat.  Check out the dance videos!  I'm in the zills performance.
