Lys, I totally agree that Victors has some of the best noms I've ever had!

When we go to other faires, I must always compare the steak on a stake. I am quite partial to Scarby's but TRF's seasoned salt is the tastiest!

Ok, I freely admit I get distracted easily and miss things... Where is Victor's? I know I must have I've seen it, but I also know that in all the years I've been going to Scarby, I've not eaten there... I'm not a huge Italian fan, but I am a big food fan (and getting bigger all the time  :P )

I've upped my standards. Now, up yours.

Enter the gates, go the right almost to the Iris & Rose stage. Most wondermous noms. Which change if not daily, at least each weekend. Some standard items, but there are some truly staggeringly tasty items only available as long as they last. It pays to visit in the morning to look at the menu for the day!

I love the fruit and cheese plate at Scarby, and with the bread that comes with it, it's enough to fill my daughter and I, and it's only $5.  At TRf it's the frozen sangria and sausage kolaches for breakfast (Scally gets the frozen lemonade with hers... ), and the chicken-on-stake back in Sherwood later on.  It's two grilled chicken breasts, no grease, and the seasoning is excellent. Of course, I'm always a sucker for frozen chocolate covered cheesecake, as well...  ;)

How often do you get down to Scarby in a typical season, Rani?  We usually try for one of the first 2-3 weekends. Our trip is about as long as yours.

Victor's Pasta Palace is the Italian booth on the same row as the German and French booths along the High Road in Pecan Grove.  Come in the gates, turn right, cross the Peasant's Free Bridge and go past the Elephant Privies.  Keep going on that far right road past the Friends of Faire area, the Brothers' Stage, and East Wind games.  Victor's is on the right hand side, just before the pub where Iris and Rose perform.

Victor makes all of his pastas and sauces from scratch, and the menu changes daily for the most part.  Some things are the same (the garlic rolls for instance) but he usually has two or three kinds of pasta with various sauces every day.  He also has some totally nommy desserts, and from what I hear he has really good espressos (I don't drink coffee).  He owns the German booth as well, and their menu changes every day or so too.  If you want a top-quality, relatively healthful meal for a decent price, they are good places to go.

I am not an employee of Scarborough Faire and to not represent them in any way.

Well, I've been twice... once this year with my renlet for RenDezvous, and once last year for closing weekend.  It's not too bad a drive for us, and I love their gorgeous Faire!  I'm hoping to go next season once, but I would have to have a place down there to stay, since I really can't afford hotel prices.  We'll just have to see what happens, though.

That's got to be the place where I ate German food last year, or next door to it! I'll pay more attention next time.

Rani, I think we're going to try to get to The Castle next year as well. One of these days, we'll meet!

I'm hoping we'll be able to get there, as well!  Terrible that I go to Faire's in other states and not the biggest one in my own backyard, eh?  ::)  NOt too sure of the camping situation around there, though, and I would want to camp with other Rennies...

I wonder if the Castle has lots of yummy Faire food, as well?

The Pasta Palace is one of our favorites as well.  I really appreciate that he puts a descriptive menu up that tells exactly what's in everything.  DD has a food allergy & while pasta is normally not a problem, the ingredients in the dishes could be.  My kids beg us to head there every day after opening cannon so we can see if they have the roses.  The pasta roses are definitely a must get if they are available that day.

I also think there are few things better than a plate of fish & chips while watching Adam Crack or Doktor Kaboom.

sorry to jump in, but are you guys talking about the Oklahoma Renfest? If so, my boyfriend and I took a drive down from Kansas last season to go, and it was great :) Hmmm...I remember he did not like the rootbeer, but we had a pork chop sandwich and that was very good. Of course I must have a bag of kettle corn as a meal and while it was not as good as TRF's, I still really liked it. He also had a pickle and very much liked that, but I hate them :P

If you're not talking about that, then whoops ;D But while it's a small faire, it was still a great time and I recommend it!

MMMmmm! I could fall in love with a pork chop sandwich!  Do they make that in a low calorie version? I have to lose some of this weight I gained from quitting smoking... Oy!

Delireus, I believe the thread is just about Faire Food, wherever you find it...

Yeah, I know, I meant are you two specifically talking about visiting the Castle in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

I know the post as a whole is about food from all over at faire. I wish I would branch out and try more things. I usually try to get the cheapest thing I can find and save money for other stuff, but one time I had alligator at TRF, it was pretty good.

Ahhh... then yes, we were talking about the Castle!  I've been back here in OK since May, '01, and we still haven't been, but mostly because I don't know much about the camping in the area, or if there are other Rennies who camp close by, and I can't really afford hotel rates.  So we go to the Norman Medieval Festival here, and save up for our Scarby and TRF trips...  Hopefully we'll make it this coming season, though, and who knows... maybe Merlin and I can talk folks into an R/F invasion if we can get some good info on the available camping and accommodations!

I do like trying new things at Faire, though... and we usually try to make a point of looking for something that looks really yummy each time we go!  I also love threads like this, because it gives us so many wonderful possibilities to choose from!
