ok, a little off topic but since the garb is still in drafting and planning stages for next year, I had to show off my Halloween costume which was Wonder Woman ala Saloon Girl style.  I didn't buy any material or trim.  I only paid for the tights and crown.  The boots were a gift.  The gaunlets are tin foil, the blue skirt/bustle was an old bridesmaid dress and the red vinyl/pleather was a costume shop save, oh, and the trim was given to me by a friend.

This it the doublet I made my brother for 2010 I made it this spring.

Kathleen MacLeod

Megsies, I told you before, but I'll tell you again: that outfit is HOT. I bet you were an awesome Wonder Woman :)

Lady Leo, that's beautiful! I absolutely adore that fabric!
Sometimes you can't wait for the storm to pass; you have to just get out there and dance in the rain.

Lady Kathleen of Olmsted

Very lovely Doublet!!  Goes well for the Steampunk look as well!

Lady Rebecca

So it's probably going to wind up with sleeves and more trim at some point, but as it stands, this is my finished garb, worn to the Lady of the Lakes Faire on Friday.

Kate XXXXXX

Very smart!  Love the blue velvet.

DonaCatalina

The dress looks wonderful, especially as I know how hard it is to work with velvet.

CenturiesSewing

One thing off my list!

99% hand sewn kirtle based on a kirtle and bodice of rash cloth from Juan de Alcega Tailor's Pattern Book.

Made from 3 yards of light weight wool in an army green color, but depending on lighting can appear various shades of brown. The bodice and sleeves are lined in fine black linen, the skirt is unlined. I finished each skirt edge by folding it over twice and then sewing it down with the running stitch before whip stitching the pieces together, a technique I read about on Laura Mellin's page http://www.extremecostuming.com/articles/theelizabethanseam.html

It goes very fast once you get the hang of it.

I used no boning in the bodice as I'm further experimenting with the use of fit alone to give a period look.

Oh Wow... that kirtle is amazing ... simply perfect.  You continue to produce such beautiful pieces of history.  I love it.

and Lady Rebecca, I love the new doublet bodice dress. You got the collar perfect.  My favorite part!

LadyMeg

No boning?!  That's amazing!  And it's so lovely!

And that double is stunning too.  Love that fabric.

And Frenchie?  Thankies.
