Do you find yourself using the same colors over and over for new garb?

Interesting question!

I know I've made many pink dresses, even though I'm not too "pink" a person in real life. It might be some surpressed princess dream from my youth, I dunno.

However, I have noticed that I have a tendency to go for strong "jewel colours", especially for my Renaissance dresses. Because of this, I think I would like to make a black or muted dress next, to work with making cool details and maybe flashing lining instead of strong colours in the fancy fabric.

I'm hoping that the petticoat from my 18th C lilac outfit can be used again for the lilac Restoration era piece I'm making next year, but other than that, no.  My theme is 'It's that colour because that was what I had i the stash!'

That said, there might be a damson/purple thing going on.  Present gown is damson and the Wicked Lady gown was purple, and then there's the lilac...

But the other gown for this year is brown, and next year's day dress will be very dark navy, with white collar and cuffs...  Rather Puritan, really.

In the attempt to be at least somewhat H/A, I conciously chose blue as my main color.
I am drawn to blue as one of 'my' best colors.
Since then, the most economical path has been to stick with that scheme.

Branching out to greens, soon, although I don't feel green suits me well.  Received a main
piece in green as a hand-me-down, and found a good fabric in the half-price bins at Jo-Anns.

I never had really thought of it.  But now that I do....my garb is all over the place, color-wise.  There's really no rhyme or reason to it.  Just what ever fabric jumped out at me and said.....HEY I want to be garb!!!

Pinks and reds normally, if I can.   The reason is very simple - I look good in pinks and reds.  If you want to see something scary, me in the wrong shade of blue is terrifying.   I look like night of the living dead and totally zombified.  Certain browns are fine; black is okay if it has a red or pink accent.   Only Aqua seems to work and even then it has to be a bright aqua when it comes to blue.  Navy blue and I do not get along.  I am not a winter.  I am very much an autumn.

I'm the same way!  I love the remnants sections at Hancock's so a lot of my garb comes from there.  That means color choice isn't always an option! ;D  And now I'm trying to go thru the stash, which means no telling what I'll get!  I don't worry about matching colors anyway with my pieces.  As long as it's not totally ugly... ;)

I can see how it seems more economical to buy fabric in similar colors for coordinating pieces.

I guess it took awhile for me to lose the modern idea of making pieces of colors that 'went together'.
I have a cocoa dress that the undersleeves and underskirt can be changed out. One set is paprika and the other set is emerald gree. The same undersleeves and skirt can also be used with a periwinkle blue gown.
Check out some of the period portraits. There are a few that have eye-watering color combinations.

I have a tendency toward deep greens & purples, nice jewel tones, not pale

I love the red, white & black combo and tend to go for it a lot, but I also love all the jewel colors.  I am branching out and trying my first green & tan outfit this year though.

I'm with Dona Catalina.  I have been trying to make more of an effort to step away from the modern trappings of "matching" colors.  Now I throw fabric on the cutting table and things that seem to go together get made into pieces that will eventually go together.   ;D  I still need to work on that part but admitting you have a problem is the first step!

As for what colors I have been using, I'm all over the spectrum from chartruese linen mixed with purple and orange to teal blue velvet with jewel tones.  I rarely wear black, though.
Nothing clever to say here.  Not enough caffine yet.

You should see me in purple. Ick. Same with certain shades of Plum and magenta, they makes my skin look yellow.
My garb tends to be all over the color wheel since I don't make that many pieces, and I used to shop the clearance items for Likely Lotus, Sofi's Stiches and T'ger Toggs a lot , so you can imagine I have everything from berry to black, and some really strange combinations that I am still trying to get up the courage to wear.

I walk through a store till something screams at me... then I find what screams to go with it!  Then i look at the price, pocket book, and how many things but be given up to buy it.  I WILL make a sunset dress one day!

I am a person or creature of habit! I do tend to go looking for different colors? When I get home? I am in purples/blues/greens.  I do not like red so because of that? I never pick up the Red Family nor do I really like the brown/golds because my mother would dress me in those colors all the time and did my room in those colors.  (Mommy Issues anyone?  :D ). So really? I am always looking for Silvers/Purples/Blues/Teals/Greens they make me happy!

Now of course? I gave birth to a child who adores Reds/Golds, so now I am looking often for him and what he would enjoy so I have had to open my mind, not for me but for the son.

I try to keep my garb to black, deep red, and golds, so that I can mix and match if needed (foreparts and sleeves, mostly).

But what I really want is a periwinkle blue silk gown with peacock blue, and gold accents. Will I ever get it? Maybe I'll save all of my faire earnings this year...
