greetings all,
we went to scarborough faire this weekend. beautiful faire.

i walked away with an idea...and wanted to run it by the sherwood family.  one of the things i loved about the faire dealt with the gardens scattered all throughout the grounds...escape areas with fantasy and natural motiffs surrounded by seating.  places where folk could just relax and sit and drink a brew, talk, and rest one's weary bones...before heading off to another show.

i was wondering if clans, individuals, or groups might be interested in creating their quaint gardens, statements, gifts of respite, within the grounds...much like the dragons of the round have done with the round table...and kev et al have done with the wishing well.
we will be adding more landscaping this year and in the years to come, but since we are a community, i just wanted to put it out there as a possibility.

i absolutely loved noobler's little area.  it seemed to be nothing more than his eccentric artistic statement within scarby and it was GRAND.

love yall,

Yes, I remember all the resting areas available in Scarby, especially the reserved refreshment/seating areas for Friends of Faire, where free water/Gatoraid was available. Some even had some snacks available.

Most of the areas were close to the parade route and had multiple seating available.

About first on the comments I received was "more seating/rest areas". Second was improving disabled access up the hill to the Pub area. Third was improved camping.

Rengypsy is now addressing the first priority: Building resting areas. That means constructing benches and tables and planting trees and bushes.

Disabled access is more difficult as it means cutting a shallow path up the hill. I believe this will come about within a year or two. Please bear with us as we make the adjustments. We know the sugar sand makes wheelchair, power chair, and stroller very difficult.

Okay, the first two are in-faire issues and not my realm of responsibility, but I hear all the comments.

My area, camping, has new issues.

We will be increasing the General/Open campgrounds area, adding new reserved camping area, changing the campgrounds entrance route, and adding/improving the Participants campgrounds.

Just an idea:

as you do clearcuting, leftover stumps make good temporary seating such as those around the Sisters.

For disabled access, one thing I saw a lot growing up in a mountainous region (SE Alaska) to counter steep slopes were switchback ramps. Might be a little pricier on the front end to build them (and mark them clearly with "handicap access, please make way" signs to keep them from turning into sidewalks), but they will last longer and be less prone to channeling downpour runoff into unforeseen places. Just a thought :)

Plenty of resting areas is getting more important to Nim and me as we get older, so yeah.  It's so amazing how you're allowing us to help in our own little ways. I wish we were closer!

I don't think I ran into you at opening weekend, RenGypsy, so I'm sorry we were visiting another faire this past weekend and didn't meet you! Mike did introduce himself to us in February, so I know what he looks like.  I'm sure our next visit will be next year at opening, so if you see us, say "hi!"

Rengypsy,

First year it was more stumps and split logs. This year I noticed more treated
lumber being used. You guys have any guidelines for booth owners as far as
materials, or get with Guilder or someone else 1st, or "creatively" tack them
together and toss them out there?

shane@sherwoodforestfaire.com or operations@sherwoodforestfaire.com should be able to answer any and all questions concerning building expectations.

Noobler's area is fantastic.  I love that area.  Perhaps something similar to that?  Does SWFF have a story teller for children?  I don't recall hearing about one.  Wonder what children's stories were common in the period of the merry men and such?  I know most fairytales were very different from the 'disney' versions we have today.  I think Lady Stitch's husband is a story teller and such.  If he isn't available (they have a baby due in the fall) he may have a few good referrals.

Bonnie, the PP says he will ask around for you.   He most likey will not be available for Sherwood 2012, but 2013 he would love to do something :)
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.
