Geez... that just blows.  Stocked up on vitamins, I hope?  Nice comfy bed for when you actually get to lay down in it for a few minutes?

I hope they don't try to cancel your weekend off with claims of "short-handed, nothing we can do"...

Have you asked these other guys if there are openings wherever they're going?  :-\

Sounds like you and Rapier both are just about ready for something different...

I was thinking about eatting a can or two of corn... just to make my notice a wee bit more "colorful" and textural.

Not yet... when the time comes, someone will get my notice "dumped" in the middle of their desk.  ;)

hehehehe works for me. I may have to "plagiarise" your performance piece.

Well, off to SoonerCon... finally!  After missing more than 7 hours of panels today.  It's ok, though, because I'll make it just in time for the parties!!!  ;)  :D

Its ok, because I love Hurling Monkies!  They are exceedingly drunken, and have deceptively large amounts of several kinds of booze... but I think I need lots more, because I can still swype legibly!  Oh!  And bacon cupcakes!!! Yard Dogs know how to throw a Party!!! Lol

Quantum Physics Derail!

Our current knowledge about the subatomic composition of the universe is summarized in what is known as the Standard Model of particle physics. It describes both the fundamental building blocks out of which the world is made, and the forces through which these blocks interact. There are twelve basic building blocks: six types of quarks that go by the rather unimaginative names of up, down, charm, strange, bottom and top, and six types of leptons, which include the electron and its two heavier siblings- the muon and the tauon- as well as three neutrinos. While I am unaware of the origins of these names, I am in complete agreement with second year physics students that their inventors should be flogged with rabid weasels.

Additionally, there are four fundamental forces in the universe: gravity, electromagnetism, and nuclear forces, both weak and strong. Each of these is produced by fundamental particles that act as carriers of the force. The most familiar of these is the photon, a particle of light, which is the mediator of electromagnetic forces, i.e. a magnet attracts a nail because both objects exchange photons. The graviton is the particle associated with gravity, though it is very poorly understood by today's physics models. The strong nuclear force is carried by eight particles known as gluons, while the weak nuclear force is transmitted by the W+, the W- , and the Z particles. Again, there shall be a great abundance of weasel-flogging should I ever acquire the locations of the rather benighted individuals who came up with these names. Though, in their defense, I have seen enough evidence to convince me that experimentation with psychotropic substances- or a great many blows to the head- were involved, and they are not entirely to blame. Moving on.

The behavior of all of these particles and forces is explained in-depth through the Standard Model, with the aforementioned exception of gravity. For technical reasons, the gravitational force, the most familiar in our every day lives, has proven very difficult to describe microscopically. The inability to formulate a quantum theory of gravity has for many years been one of the most annoying problems in theoretical physics. Until recently, that is. In the last few decades, string theory has emerged as the most promising candidate for a microscopic theory of gravity. If you are still reading this, you are either a serious physics geek or very, very bored :D

Hey, string theory can be fun... it's just when it goes superstring that it gets a little... busy.  ::)  And don't even get me started on M-theory!!!  :o  It's bad enough they want me to comprehend a 1-dimensional object... but 1-dimensional slices of a 2-dimensional membrane vibrating in 11-dimensional timespace just... makes my brain hurt.

Sooo... I tried pretty hard to get at least a little drunk tonight, and not even a buzz.  The Loki I took with me warmed my tummy a bit, but nothing beyond that, and the Hurling Monkeys didn't hurl anything at all, I guess... I'm just not sure what's going on with me and booze these days, but it's been kinda weird the last couple of years.  Maybe it's just that the really sugary stuff is being processed differently... I seem to get a much better buzz from cider than from Loki or hard alcohol, lately.  Hmmm...  I do have a bit of a headache now, though, but that could be from the band earlier.

At least I'm sleepy, so off I go!  Nighty-night...  ;)

Oh!  Almost forgot!  I got to check out the new Battletech box set tonight, and it's pretty cool!!!  Lots of fun stuff included, and a good price.  Wish I had a gaming group here... we'd be playing Dark Nova already!

Where do quarks and their interaction with dark matter enter into you equation?
