Reviste castle is located on a hill above Reviste, Slovakia.

The castle was built in 1253 or 1331 depending on how the records are read. It changed hands several times between the kings and archbishops before it was burned in the 18th century.

Hajnacka Castle, or Ajnacsko, sits on top of a near perfect cone in Hajnacka, Slovakia.

Records indicate that King Bela began construction of the castle in 1247 and it was later completed by his son. After many owners and many seiges, the castle was abandoned between 1711 and 1744. Today the ruin is so advanced that it barely resembles a castle at all.

Castillo de los Calatravos is located in Alcaniz, Teruel , Aragón , Spain.

The castle was built by and belonged to the Order of Calatrava . This military order had an important role in the reconquest of the town in 1157. They built their stronghold shortly after and continued adding to it through the fifteenth century.

Kinnairdy castle is located at Marnoch Bridge, near Marnoch, Scotland.

The castle was originally a motte and bailey in the 1300's. In 1420 a six storey tower house was added. In 1725 the structure was altered to its current appearance.

Schenkenberg castle is a castle ruin above the municipality of Thalheim in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland.

The castle was probably built in the early 13th Century for the Habsburgs dynasty, both as a headquarters and to protect core areas around Brugg. The first written mention of the castle took place in 1243 when the Lords of Schenkenberg, a Habsburg vassel, were granted land around the castle.

Castle Schafisheim is a late Gothic style castle in the center of the village Schafisheim in the Swiss canton of Aargau.

The building was built a few years after the battle of Sempach (1386) commissioned by the lords of Baldegg, whose headquarters in the chaos of war by the Confederates had been destroyed.

Bollerup castle is located in Tomelilla municipality, Sweden.

Bollerup was built sometime in the 1200s and came in the 1300's by marriage to the family Thott. Olof Stigsen Krognos erected the current Bollerup castle at the end of the 1400s, probably replacing an earlier wooden stronghold. These days the castle houses a school, its castle-like barn and stables outside the moat.

Qalaat Aleika is located in central Syria

It was built in the 11th or 12 century by Ismaili Arabs. But the cemetery has some markers with Latin inscriptions; testifying to the presence of crusaders at some point.

Chervonohorod Castle, also referreed to as Chervonogorod, ruins are almost all that remain of the Chervonohorod town in Zalischyky Raion, Ternopil Oblast of Ukraine.

It was chartered in 1434 and was the seat of a powiat in the Podole Voivodeship and the current castle is the third or perhaps fourth stronghold to stand on this site. Replacing an earlier, probably wooden structure, a stone castle was built in the early 17th century as a seat of the Danilowicz magnate family. Prince Poninski acquired the ruined castle from the Habsburgs in 1778 and had it demolished. A new princely residence was erected to replace it.

Rodoni castle is located on Cap Rodon in Albania.

Rodon Castle was built by Scanderbeg circa 1451-1452. While the additional works were made in 1463. After Scanderbeg's death the castle was conquered by the Venetians who rebuilt mach of the fortifications because of the threat of Ottoman Turks.

Khunburg is located above the village of Hermagor, Austria

Though the castles first appears in historical documents in 1189, the current structure was built in the 13th century.

Castle Calvay is located on Calvay Island in Scotland.

The date of its building is uncertain, but some historians believe that it dates from the late twelfth century. The island is now uninhabited and the castle in ruin.

Kasperk castle was built on the northwestern foothills of the Zdanov Mountains, in the Czech Republic.

The castle was founded in 1356 by the Czech King and Roman Emperor Charles IV. There were three good reasons for building the castle at this particular place. First of all, it was necessary to protect the borderline between Bohemia and neighbouring Bavaria. The second reason was the ruler´s desire to defend the gold-bearing area around Kašperské Hory and to ensure safety on a newly established trade route called the "Golden Route".

Karlsberg is a ruined castle in Austria, southwest of the town of Sankt Veit and der Glan.

Other castles which are unrelated ended up with the same name across the Germanic territories. It was built in 1169 by Wichardus de Charlsberch (Richard of Karlsberg). Today it is hard to see anything but the outline of the double ring wall.

Karlsberg, or Karlsburg, is also the name of a ruined castle in Burgstall in the district of Starnberg in Upper Bavaria, Germany.

According to legend, Charlemagne visited this castle when it was one of the largest round castles of the Middle Ages. Only foundations remain on the hilltop today.
