Hi guys.
I am at my wits end trying to find the fabric I am looking for.
I am in the middle of doing a test for some costuming ideas I have and I am looking for
liquid vinyl/pvc/spandex gold fabric.
It needs to have that reflective metallic look without any sparkles or specks.
Basically I need it to look like a sheet of gold.

I have found a place online called fabricdirect.com but the couple of reviews I have found are not reassuring.
I found one woman online that is actually close to me (orlando) who makes vinyl/spandex clothing who has it
but she refuses to sell me the fabric or to name her source.

I found nothing on ebay
any directions you can point me in??

Auryn!

I may be heading up to Jo Ann Fabrics this week. I can look out for some for you and then get back to you on it as for the cost per yard. I like to call it, Liquid Lame.

Wow, good call, Lady K! Liquid Lame brings up a bunch of hits. Auryn, don't know if this is exactly what you're looking for, but:

Liquid Lame at Hancock

here's some at Fabric Direct

...And at Distinctive Fabric

...It's not very expensive, either, which is nice!

I think I've seen that at Hancock Fabric in the special occasion section -I think its' called Shimmerlite.  Very lightweight but opaque, no sparkle almost like foil?    Looks like that picture...

This is why I love you guys.
Lady Kathleen I would much appreciate that, especially if they have a sku# for it- the people at the joanns down here are about as bright as a box of rocks.

thanks for the links gem im gonna go look
I think the problem I might have with lame is that it has like a bit of texture
I need something like Rowen mentioned that looks like foil- smooth and shiny
Like this from mjtrends- anyone know this site??

gem, do you have any experience with fabric direct.com??

Auryn, as a fellow denizen of Central Florida, I need to inform you that you are insulting the rocks.

And ... Spandexworld? There's really a whole website devoted to Spandex, and it's called Spandexworld? Golly, talk about scary.

I will be going over to JoAnn's today because I need some zippers and threads. I will take some paper with me to write down SKU#s and relay them to you.

We love you too, Auryn! :) For we are like a family here and look out for one another!

I read that when I hadn't had breakfast yet and my heart stopped for half a second cause i felt horrible I had insulted someone hehehe

apparently on patternreview fabricdirect.com has some pretty good reviews albeit dated.
Im gonna try and call and see if I can talk to them about samples.

Thank you guys for all the help and I promise you can rest assured im not planning on making ren garb out of gold pvc ;).
But if I get my project to work it will make for some very cool accessories and techniques that I promise to share.

FWIW, Spandex World actually comes very highly recommended by the dancewear/skating/gymnastics-wear folks on Pattern Review.

Auryn...Here are the SKUs from what I saw from JoAnn's that I refer to Liquid Lame. There is some stretch to the fabric.

Thanks Lady Kathleen- im gonna try to hit up Joanns this weekend especially since I have an extra 20% coupon.

I submitted a request for a sample from spandexworld- we shall see what its like when it gets here. -their fabric is $8-$12

I contacted FabricDirect- they wont ship me a sample since the fabric is on a sale.
Im torn on what to do- they have the best price at $5/yard but its a sale/discount price- normally$9/yd- so they might run out soon, but I have no guarantee that its what I need- the picture on their site is kinda crap

This is the picture from fabricdirect- the description sounds right "Wet Look Vinyl Gold "- they do have a '30-day no question asked return policy"

Which is why at times I am reluctant to buy fabric online like that without touching and getting a feel for what I can make with it. I have lucked out on 2 ocassions by getting a swatch before ordering and knowing that the Velveteen I wanted was the right color.

Other than that, I have to see the fabric, feel it, and then make a decision to buy it.

Good Luck, Auryn.

I wanted to update you guys since you were so helpful.

I ordered samples of the 2-way and 4-way gold fabric from spandexworld- it took a week and a half to get here- no big deal except that when I opened the envelope it turns out they sent me silver and hematite colored spandex- it was the frosting on top of a really bad day.
I called- they told me to submit another request- rather brusque on the phone to be honest.

I bit the bullet and bought 6 yards of the fabric from fabricdirect- it was on clearance for $5/yd plus I had a 20% off coupon- mainly because they supposedly have a 30 days no questions return policy.. Everyone there was very nice and pleasant.
I would have had the fabric this past friday if not for ups losing my package in limbo. 3 days and 6 phone calls later I received my fabric this morning.
To be honest I am a little dissapointed. I was expecting a stronger yellow factor and a stronger shine. If they had sent me a sample of it first I wouldn't have bought it. They won't send samples of anything that is on clearance.
I am debating whether to keep it or return it. The texture and feel of it is perfect, its the color and shine that just isnt convincing me. Maybe I am too hung up on finding this dang Larissa material they use in Japan. Kinda wish I hadn't read about it.

I am attaching a picture of what I received vs the picture they show on their site- big difference.

As of right now I am still waiting on the samples from spandex world. Also looking into other options besides fabric.
