In case anyone wasn't paying attention, this weekend begins Oktoberfest. Did anyone figure out the joke?
Karlberg Castle is located on Lake Karlberg , Solna , adjacent to Stockholm, Sweden.

The three villages and great house that had formed the Karlberg Estate had been in existance since the middle ages. In 1620 the estate became the property of King Gustav II Adolf's half brother , Admiral Carl Carlsson Gyllenhielm and his wife Helena Ribbing. Between then and 1634 they started construction of the large central stone building that became the center of the castle, probably built on the site of the old manor house.

Gelersen-Gorersen Castle is a fortress in Azerbaijan.

This fortress was built and maintained by the kings of Azerbaijan before their demise in 805 AD.

Synkavichy Castle in Synkavichy, Belarus is actually a combination of church and castle.

Constructed in about 1550, the structure served as a place of worship for the village as well as sanctuary in times of danger. The church is dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel, appropriately enough considering its dual function.

Veltwijck Castle is located in Ekeren, Belgium.

The castle was at least partially built in the late 1400's or early 1500's. But it does not enter existing records until 1545 when it was purchased by "Wyck of Velt".

Château de Spontin is located at the heart of Spontin, Belgium.

The castle started out in the twelfth century as a square fortified tower with a moat. By the fourteenth century, the castle had been expanded with round towers on top of that.

Maglaj Castle is a castle in the town of Maglaj in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Though devastated by recent wars, enough evidence remains to say that the stone castle was almost surely built in the early fourteenth century.

Piconha Castle is a Portuguese medieval fortification now situated near the town of Calvos de Randín, Ourense, Galicia, Spain.

Piconha was built early in the twelfth century on the border between Galicia and Portugal. All that is visible now are foundations, wall fragments and part of a granite stairway.

Gvozdansko Castle is a castle in Gvozdansko village, Croatia.

Hamrstejn is a castle ruin located close to the city of Liberec, Czech Republic.

Borgeby Castle lies in Lomma Municipality, Scania in southern Sweden.

There has been a castle on this site since the elenth century, rebuilt many times over the years. The castle was burned in 1452 by the Swedes and in 1658 by the Danes. The wing that connected the tower to the origal wall with the gate was demolished about 1860.

Gammel Vraa Castle is located west of Tylstrup, Denmark.

The castle is first mentioned in 1355 . The name means "little place". It was originally a series of courtyards, the king confiscated along with Vendsyssel monasteries and established Gammel VRaa as a royal estate, in 1500-century was the area's largest. Though it is now a hotel, the moat still surrounds the castle.

Woodcroft Castle is a converted medieval castle, with moat, in the parish of Etton, Cambridgeshire, England.

Woodcroft Castle was built in or about 1280 by the Woodcroft family. The medieval remains of the castle today include a front, a circular tower and a gatehouse.

Otepaa Castle is a ruin in Otepaa, Estonia.

It was originally built in the eleventh century as a castle of the Livonian Order. In 1217 it was beseiged and dstroyed by a combined force of Russians and Estonians. In 1224 Bishop Hermann started building the first known brick castle in Estonia from the ruin.

Château d'Échéry is a ruined castle in the commune of Sainte-Croix-aux-Mines in Alsace .

It is also known as the castle of Haut-Échery and the beginning of its existence it was called Belmont Castle.  It was built in the XIII century by the noble Échery who exploited the silver mines.

Château de Hierges is located on a rocky outcrop in the town of Hierges, France.

Hierges, whose original name was "The Castle of Jerusalem" was built on the site of a castrum whose origins date back to the ninth century.
