I thought we could make a new thread!  On that says we are proud to find glorious fabrics.

I can't wait to show you all my 12th Night Gown which will be white damask and black damask from my awesome stash! See what happens when you find a good deal and you put it aside!

I did find the perfect trim and I will show you all soon, but all I had to put out for this gown? Is the trim. I had collected all of the fabrics for the past few -10-years!

Anyway! I wanted US to have a great place! To show off our lovely fabrics!!!

What a good idea.  I shall have to dig out some of mine.

Adriana Rose

I was digging in my stash of satins and I found a beautiful green Japanese silk that my uncle brought home when he was stationed over there. I really want to make an over dress for my mom since he isnt with us anymore but the thought of cutting into to that gives me the shakes!

When I get the nerve to do it I will post a picture

I guess I have good Karma!  I was at a JoAnn's and in the clearance space was a roll of silk, and it had a tag that was $6.00!!! So I got all of it I think it is 15 yards, which is awesome because I was planning on making some 14th Century Gothic Fitted Gown or Cotehardie for my niece's 14th Birthday Party. I am in the making of a Gates of Hell and GFG, and we need one for the two Nieces. So I was trying to save cash but still make smashing apparel!

So the whole shabang was $48.66, for 14.6 yards!! Awesome, I have in the STASH, Blue Velveteen, Dark Blue Damask, and some Blue/Black Ecclastical fabric. I think I can keep the matchy Matchy by making Gabby's gold on the over gown and Mina's in the undergown..........

Wish me luck!

A few years ago (maybe 2010?), I decided to see just what was on the $1.95 Clearance on fabric dot com.   Turns out, that day, they had emerald green dupioni silk there among the vinyls and polys!  Even though I was pretty poor (I think this was after one of the first times my old truck had go in for repairs) at the time, I still snagged 30 yards.  I've made tons of stuff out of it over the past couple years.  Two 18th C gowns (one for me, one for Mom), a Regency gown, a late 1890's blouse, ect.  I have enough left over now for probably one more gown.  I'm thinking 1520's Venetian but that might change.

God bless Craigslist lol! I got this 16 yard bolt for $20:

It *is* shiny, so I do believe it's synthetic and won't take dye, so I plan on making "costume-y" outfits or using it for undersleeves, foreparts, etc. I think it would make a *beautiful* Elizabeth Swann dress, so I *definitely* will be doing that. And if I ever get an itch to make Maria's curtain dress from The Sound of Music, this would be perfect as well lol! Other than the aforementioned pieces, any ideas on uses?

Oh, GLORIOUS!!!! You're right--totally perfect Elizabeth Swan gown. And holy cow, it's an even better deal than I thought--$1.25/yard!! You would have kicked yourself to miss that (or I would have kicked you, either way).

I think you should cut a swatch and see just what it will do, dye-wise! Although really, it's a perfectly splendid color as is.

Wickedvox

LOL! Yes, it would've been psychologically unpleasant at best, as I would have spent days berating myself for passing it up! God knows I have enough to play with, so I will do just that. Yellow is actually one of my *least* favorite colors--pastel most of all (think baby nursery--ack!)--but I just couldn't say no. And I know pastels aren't h/a either. But we shall see. I'm glad you didn't have to kick me.  :P

Psaw. It would make a marvelous giornea.

I think colors are only "pastels" when in a group. Really, I have no idea, but I don't see anything wrong with that yellow. I have a beautiful butter yellow damask in my stash that was supposed to be a giornea to go with this, but it's been six seasons now, so it probably won't ever happen. Sigh.

We could start a yellow thread for you, if you want!  ;D

Wickedvox

You do the most marvelous work! (As do *many* people on these boards--some of you are so far beyond my skill set) It may be nice to find some historical sightings of pastel yellow in gowns. I'm *really* leaning toward using it for the forepart and sleeves of a tudor gown (I'm drawn much more to Tudor styles than Renaissance, truth be told). I know Anea and Isabella are the history experts, so maybe they could chime in *hint hint!* Too bad I can't "tag" them in a post--can I??

And I *best* see that giornea in the future with your beautiful gamurra ;) (can I get a pronunciation on giornea? My nursing school mind wants to pronounce it in a very *inappropriate* way  :o )

Hey WickedVox

Just because it has poly? Does not mean it will not dye, in fact it do a small swatch with your dyes and see what comes out! I have been dying strange fabrics, and the natural parts will dye one color and sometimes the synthetic will go silver! Or White, I will see if I can get some pictures for you but don't think you can't dye this fabric!

Cilean--I *believe* this is a 65/35 poly/cotton--I saw a bolt very similar but in different colors at Joann's in the "cheaper* home dec rolls. I'm going to play with it next week. I'd be thrilled if I could get a deep yellow/gold, but when in doubt black goes with everything :) Gem is right though, it's a decent color as is, I'll find uses for it. In fact I'm going to do a mock-up of an underbust corset and see how it comes out.

Just stumbled across this on etsy, and it looks like a great buy for somebody! It's over five yards of striped silk home dec fabric for only $25!

Another pic at the link!

I am not tempted, but thought somebody here might think it was just the thing.  :D

Squeee!!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Okay so I went to a not to local Joann's it is a big one I was going to a computer class, but I digress, and while waiting for the Teacher, I (Of course) browsed the Discount section.  Now there was a lady who was touching some gold strange fabric, & then I did a double take.  I can spot Silk anywhere I can promise you!  So casually so not to make this other lady grab the silk, I picked up some fake stuff and then was looking at some linen, and she walked away from the silk.  So of course I grabbed it!  It had a label that said $6.00 per yard, which is a complete steal...however? This was the Extra 50% off week and so it came to $3.00 per yard.  It was like 15 yards of the silk and it is a thicker silk not the stuff they sell at $15.99 which is so lightweight it is hard to sew....  I am making some Cotehardies or Gothic Fitted Gowns for my BFF and her daughters, and I was worried I would not have enough fabric to make it really shine for their 12th Night and also the middle child's birthday pressie, which is going to Medieval Times in Buena Park, in November.  So now? I have enough and because none of them are over 5' 2"? I can use it sideways because it is 54" wide!!!

Okay the Fleur de Lys fabric is for my 12th Night Gown possibly, I know it will be for some 12th Night, but I have 3 gowns in progress (pearling takes time!) but that is from Hancock Fabrics, and they were having a 50% off sale at my birthday, so it was $9.00 per yard plus an extra 20% off, instead of $19.99 per yard regularly. I have a thing for Fleurs so I had to pick up that fabric.

This is the other fabrics I as well as the gold/black shot silk on the top, I hope to get pictures of these gowns soon, so you all can see them!

Okay so while I was out checking out what is out there? My old haunt 'Discount Fabrics' on Haight/Ashbury, Yep the hippy section of San Fran, closed and now is Food Market.  Which totally sucks royal balls, so I found out they opened another one in Berkeley and since BFF is an Alumni and wanted to check out Berkeley to pick up some t-shirts and the like? It was a hop skip and a jump to several fabric shops in the area, one being Stone Mountain and Daughter and the other the afore mentioned Discount Fabrics.  Not the discount it was at the Haight, but still they had a sale and I was able to pick up some really awesome shot silks. I picked up the blue/red for my youngest niece she is getting a gates of Hell from that piece and if I work it perhaps a Crispinette as well.

So the silver, is Silk Satin only 2.75 yards but enough to do my Hubby's jerkin in and it was $10.00 per yard from Stone Mountain and Daughter, in fact? one of the sales people there? Was envious of my find and kept petting it like it was her precious (it was MINE).  The purple/orange shot, was $10.50 per yard with a 20% off sale and the gray/pink was the same.  I don't know what I needed it, but I did so there.
