Not me... The parents letting their kid run rampant through the ranks should get the enema. Different view from a different generation, I suppose.

Granted, the Tuba player was out of line, but only because the kid had to have been hurt planting a facer like that.

We don't have the story behind the video and this very well may not have been the first pass by that kid (which I suspect is the case).  He had plenty of room to run behind the formation but didn't,  so I would say that looks like he was deliberately attempting to disrupt the performance and the tuba player was expecting him.
Ah, what a difference a few decades makes. This looks like an old film, and back in the 40-60's, the kid would not have had much sympathy; in fact the parents would have been mortified over the child's behavior instead of outraged at the musician.

I have seen much the same thing during parades now days; the parents let the kids run from one side of the street to the other, causing floats to slam on brakes, horses balk and marching bands fall out of formation.  When I was a child, we sat quietly on the curb and watched the show.  Now days the kids think it's all about them.
Some parents are embarrassed and take appropriate action, but a few others will think it's cute, and can be seen laughing about it (until the kid gets hurt and they are on the evening news).

What doesn't kill me-had better run.

In my business, we could argue either side of the coin on the tuba tripper and make a good living off the debate.   ;D

Reviewing these comments is like a peek window into a potential juror or jury's mind.

Thank you universe . . .  for creating humans who act by making impulsive or itentional mistakes and who can't be nice or get along as a choice.

100 years from now, will anyone even remember the right or wrong of such events . . . either way ?

I commend the Tuba player and I think that kid's parents deserve to be smacked upside the head for being so rude as to allow him to behave that way.
Talk about completely disrespecting all those musicians and the people in the stands

Ah, but suppose the victim is the tuba player's little brother.  If you had a sibling,  consider if you have either been a victim or evil doer when in youth.   Does not youth cause impulsive behavior ?   Were not both victim and victimizer both still in youth ?   For those who blame parents, suppose there is only one and the one was on the telephone getting a call about a parent catestrophy and momentarily distracted.  The victim learned a painful lesson.  Big harm.  LIttle harm ?  It can't be judged because there is no context.  At face value, it could be laughed at for a lesson being taught and a lesson being learned.  Judge it not as there is no basis to judge it if the context of the event is missing.  Its sole value is . . . was there some justice or no and lesson or no going on between the two observed participants, imo.

In other words, it can be judged (context of this thread topic, funny/interesting?) only for its entertainment value, if any.

That depends on the individual's sense of humor and how it runs or dips or dives or perception, for that is the reality for each observer.

Ah! A lesson learned...excellent point well-taken regarding the lack of context. I stand corrected...in that instance.

I have been in the position, whilst still in the hospitality trade, of carrying hot coffees to customers when a rampant young man came racing through for the umpteenth time and nearly ran into me. As he made a return run—after I had made my delivery—I grabbed him as he passed. I told him, in no uncertain terms, that he was not permitted to run in my restaurant. Whether he took me seriously, or one of his oblivious parents noticed that I had him by the arm, I don't know, but he stopped running through the restaurant.

If he had been scalded, guess who would have been sued...as the woman at the Grand Union says, "It's got to be somebody's fault."

Parents, teach your children well.

Now, see?  All this time I've been using the shelves in my entertainment center for my wine glasses, and everyone looks at me like they've never heard of such a thing, and asks "WHY?"...  I can now show them this, and say "you mean you DON'T have your bar set up this conveniently?  What a pity..."  :P  :D

I'm actually getting rid of it this weekend, though, to open up my living area, and the old TV is going into Scally's room, along with the DVD player and old VCR, so she can actually watch old movies on it... and the computer with the 23" flat panel HDTV monitor is going in the living room along with my big corner desk, so I can have my own room back!  No more bar, though...  :(
