After a little more than 2 years of sharing a house, next month I am finally going to be back out in my own place! It's small, but it's plenty for me, my 4 cats, and my garb.  I am pretty sure I will even have space in the garb closet, erm guest room for a daybed or futon, eventually.

It's going to be interesting, because when I last moved, it was into a fully occupied and mostly furnished house with a friend's family (of 4, plus 2 occasional weekend children), I kept only 2 chairs (both glider style recliners), 3 bookshelves (2 small/short, 1 tall), my dresser, 2 cedar chests, my bed, 2 nightstands, a living room side table (family heirloom), a drum top occasional table (another heirloom), television and a small drop front cabinet (also an heirloom), and got rid of ALL of my other furniture.  Fortunately, I put into storage when I moved, knowing that I was looking at about an 18-24 month cohabitation, a majority of my expensive to replace kitchen things, like the microwave, pots/pans/utensils, the cutting boards I loved and things like that, so I'm not starting totally from scratch, at least in the kitchen. Once I've gotten everything moved, and out of storage, I will probably scour yard sales and the resale/thrift shops for a small couch and things like that.

I am SOOOO very happy to be back out into my own space. The last 5 months have been stressful because my friends moved to another town for a good job offer that included housing (and it's really just as well, because they've since gained custody of the 2 occasional weekend children and there really wasn't space to add 2 more permanently to the house I live in), and leased the house with a lease/purchase agreement to another friend of theirs, with the stipulation that I can continue to live there until I could get back into my own place.  That friend is largely an arrogant, self-centered jerk, with 1 well -behaved and one untrained dog, and until the Monday after Thanksgiving 2 cats (that I cared for when the original owners moved out & he agreed to adopt them, but he didn't move in for 2 months), when he let one of the cats die from lack of medical care, and I took possession of the other (because she is hairless & kinda delicate to start with AND he was told that she was NOT allowed to be alone, she needed to be with other cats). The untrained dog is STILL untrained, even though he was off work on medical leave for a minor surgery from 2 weeks before Thanksgiving until January 3rd, and now she whines & howls all night in the living room because he insists that they need to be inside at night (while he is at work and I am trying to sleep). If you've seen The Big Bang Theory, aside from the OCD need for labeling everything and orderliness & the germaphobia, he IS Sheldon Cooper.  Sheldon on TV is HILARIOUS. Living with Sheldon SUCKS...

At any rate, only 4 more weeks!!!!!

The big move will begin on Friday afternoon, after I sign my lease. I am so ready to be away from Sheldon! And his dogs!

On the down side, I HATE packing... if anybody has any packing spells to get everything into reasonably sized boxes efficiently and quickly, I'd sure love to know what they are!

I bought bundles of packing boxes from U-Haul. Reasonably cheap, and coordinated sizes to make it easier to put in moving vehicle.

Oh, I've got the boxes... I tend to use plastic totes, that way, if they don't get unpacked for awhile, and we get a mouse infestation or something, I don't end up with unwanted critters. I just need some fast & easy way to get all my stuff into said boxes ;)

We've got a trailer & Yukon (which will pretty much be filled up with my stuff from the 5x10 storage unit), 3 pickup trucks (2 full size, 1 a Dodge Dakota), and 2 cars. Considering that all that's in the house with me currently is a small table, 2 bookshelves (full of books & assorted curios), 1 glider chair, 2 cedar chests, my bed, 2 nightstands, a refrigerator, my marble top dresser, my tv, and a small chest that's about 3.5 ft tall, plus the boxes, I think we'll easily make it all in one trip. Currently I have a total of about a dozen packed boxes/totes, and I'm thinking that I'm looking at close to that many more still to pack, between my bedroom & the kitchen.  Some stuff will go over on Friday evening (like bathroom & kitchen stuff) so that I can be partially set up already on Saturday. Saturday morning I'll take the cats and most of their stuff, because I'm going to leave them closed up in the extra bedroom while we're actually doing the moving, for EVERYBODY'S safety.

I've threatened to use a front-end loader, Raevyncait, but they're difficult to get up a flight of stairs...

Congratulations!  Always exciting to get out of an annoying situation and into your own space!  I know the packing and unpacking process is always a pain, but just try to keep in mind how much you're enjoying putting your own personal stamp on your new place!  Enjoy!!!

Well, I'm 95% in, and maybe 5% unpacked, but I'm OK with that, I don't have doggy duty anymore, and the other 5% to move can be done in the evenings after work... using boxes that I've unpacked out of.
You should have heard me laughing and squealing as we unearthed my totes labeled "kitchen" from the storage unit! I LOVE my kitchen stuff, and am so happy to have it back where I can use it. None of that's been unpacked yet, but by tomorrow I'll have that part done.
The cats are settling in nicely, and hopefully will continue to behave themselves.
