Durham Museum exhibition

  'Cut-Costume and the Cinema' opened in Omaha at the Durham and will run through April.   I had heard about this from other folks who have seen it, and it is worth the $8.00 admission just to see Anjelica Huston's court gown from 'Ever After'.

I went and saw this exhibit yesterday.  Wonderful!  One can walk around almost every costume.  There is nothing between you and the costume itself (i.e. no glass of any kind), and you can get very close but are asked not to touch.

  Too bad this isn't one of those museums that is housed in a 19th century building.   This would be a perfect steampunk invasion event ^_^.  
  The Victorians were mad for anything Egyptian, and the exhibits in London were always busy back in the day...


Alas, Kate.  Our Museum was named after a person, not a place.
   When Hubby and I last visited the UK in 2009, my Manchester cousin took us through York on the way to Edinburgh (which is his school town).  We drove past Durham, but did not stop.   Next time we visit we will try to get over there, it's a lovely place

Ah yes, the Joslyn!  I grew up in Omaha, left in '85.  We used to go to the Joslyn quite a bit.  I haven't been back since I left.  Maybe I'll check it out next time I'm in town!

We were just passing through, but I'd like to go back and do more extensive touring and photography.

Ok, that's the weir over which I kyaked on several occasions...

Then there's Prebens Bridge (foot only these days) and the other set of weirs.  Been over that bridge more often than I can count!

The church and the indoor market from the river...

Bell tower...  Fuzzy!  Were the bells ringing?   

And the castle keep...  You know that's full of students, don't you?  It's a student hall of residence for University College, commonly known as 'Castle' for obvious reasons!

I spent three years in Durham.  Not long enough.

The Bell Tower was Fuzzy due to being shot at 600mm (with a 100-300mm lens and 2x Teleconverter on my old Nikon FE-2), Hand-Held or possibly on a Mono-Pod.

Ah...  If you'd been up the bell tower when the bells are ringing, you'd have felt it sway...  Moves about 4"!
