And like in so many cases, it's always better to overpack, than underpack. So...I'm preparing for the worst.

I must wash all my blankets tomorrow and go to storage and grab my carpet so my air matress has some insulation. I have been here before... I know how to have a warm bed!

Husband and I dusted off the old futon mattress for this weekend, along with all the blankets and bed spreads we have. As for the hand warmers, I shall have to scrounge up enough money for those somehow - in garb I don't have pockets, but I do have gloves!

Sorry I can't be there to keep you warm.  Alex is just going to have to kick it up a notch and double time it to keep you warm.  I hope the two of you have a great time out there.  Miss you all.

Aww I miss you too G! Don't worry, there will be much snuggling under many blankets in our tent... Also, he may be trying to convince his parents to get him a early birthday gift in the form of a Mr. Heater Big Buddy " Oh god I can feel my blood start to move again" gift.

If you do get a Big Buddy, dont forget to have plenty of D-Cell batteries, and make sure to get the adapter hose so that you can use a 20 lb. propane bottle.  Otherwise, you will end up going through 4+ bottles a night trying to stay warm.  A 20 lb. propane bottle will last you all weekend and you will have some gas left over for another trip.

On that same topic, I learned the hard way to purchase the regulated hose, not just any hose.  The regulator hose with the quick connect reduces the pressure of the 20# bottle down to the low pressure required by the heater and prevents garbage from being pushed out of the hose and into the gas lines of the heater.

Didn't do this on my first heater and ended up having to take the whole thing apart and clean out all of the lines.  it's also not fun having to deal with a shivering, cold, miserable wife (o:

My hose is not regulated, but seems to work fine.  I did notice that the hose had inline screens, so this may help with the trash.  And this has worked fine for me for several years.  Though you now have given me food for thought.  I think I will look more into this KP.  Thanks.

It depends on which hose you have.  If you have the quick connect you need to have the regulated hose, but if you are connecting to the screw fittings (where the small bottles connect) then you are ok because those are regulated on the heater.

The problem with the non regulated quick connect is that the high pressure from the bottle squeezes out the impurities in the rubber hose and they travel with the gas through the gas lines of the heater.  Ours worked for one or two seasons.  Then the pilot flame became very difficult to light. Then it wouldn't light at all.  After some research I found out the problem.

Fixing the heater was not too difficult and since I wasn't aware of the problem at first I ended up buying a second one.  Now we have a spare that we loan out to fellow campers during the Sherwood winters.  Both now have regulated quick disconnect hoses (o:

Mine is the screw type, and I believe it was ordered from the Mr. Buddy company, though that was many years ago and am not 100% on that.  Thanks again for the insight.

Everybody - please, please, please be careful while trying to stay warm.

Warm, toasty rennies are fine.

Crispy overcooked ones - not so much.

Everybody have a good time.  Wish I could be with you.

I will keep all the advice in mind everyone! We will be getting a hose and a large propane tank, rest assured, and plenty of batteries are already in storage for the fan.

you should see how many amazon.com wishlists I have for camping. One for cold weather gear, one for hot weather gear, and one for the larger stuff around camp.

Eventually I'll invest in a heater for my tent. For right now though, I'm fine with a ton of blankets or a personal body heater. ;)
