Lady Kathleen of Olmsted

#3825
Thank you all so much for the compliments.

The Green Damask I bougth at my local Mill End Outlet. It is the same Damask I used for Lady Delaney's Tudor Gown ensemble in 2010. It has a nice weight to it, though I did underline the fabric with a cotton  broadcloth to give it more body with the trims and pearling.

The Gold on Black  trim is called FRAMES from The Pillaged Village. My favorite trim of all that I use. I will need to order more come Summer. THe Gold swirled buttons were from there as well.

The Doublet's Back view. I did the V to coordinate with the front. The pattern for the Doublet is the Dashing Doublets from Fantasy Fashions. The Waist treatment pattern, I drew up myself.

I really like those big tabs,  the little round ones are almost too fussy for a man's garb ;D    These or the square skirting type tabs will look good on Davids' doublet.
I'm going over to Pillaged Village now to look at that trim....
Will you be making matching pants?

Lady Kathleen of Olmsted

I made a suggestion to the Baron of a simple pair of Venetians made of the same Medium Wale Corduroy I made his first Doublet out of to wear with his new Doublet as well.

Hoowil

Well, I've been on lurk status for too long. The hand is kind of healed, so here go the newest finished projects.

Amara wasn't super thrilled to have to model, so its the best pic I have unfortunately. this was supposed to be done last summer for our warmer weather faires. She's asked for a red flat cap to go with, which I'll need to get done in the next three weeks, along with new stuff for her brother for our season openner.

All hand stitched, as my machine wouldn't even touch the leather. I decided that if I am going to teach the kids archery, it'll have to be period, so I needed a quiver. It'll hold a dozen arrows with ease. For the time being, I think I'll hook the loop through a mug hanger. I wasn't able to find too much about period quivers, except that they were used for hunting and recreational shooting, not for war, and that the iconic back quiver was not in use in Europe. I even made up an arm guard to match according to the designs of remains found on the Mary Rose, a Henrician warship.

Silverstah, your witch looks really WOW!

Hoowil, nice work on the dress and quiver. I like your knowledge of bows and quivers. Would love to see the matching arm guard.

So, my finished project isn't really renaissance festival garb related, but it does fit the time period...sorta

It really goes unsaid that we all probably love history, but I have a particular affinity for ancient British history. Have you guys seen these scarfs? - http://www.etsy.com/shop/storiarts?ref=pr_faveshops adorable! They're sections of books. At first I wanted one, but honestly, I don't read much fiction, it's mostly history books now days.

So, I thought, instead of taking my favorite book, I'll make one with my favorite dates! Using the BBC's timeline of British history, along with a few history books, I compiled over 130 of what I consider to be the most important and iconic dates and people in history. It covers a time period from 4500 BC to 1559 AD (I really only like history up to the Tudors, and even that's getting a bit too modern for my taste). I made the scarf in photoshop, it honestly took about 6 months because it was on the back burner for so long.

Then, I had it printed using spoonflower - http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/1759405! It finally arrived! I cut it all out, sewed it together, and now I can wear 6,000 years of the best of British history wherever I go. I just revised my design based on a few problems with sewing it and now it's up for sale on spoonflower, so everyone can make their own! Everyone being those who likes scarves, sewing, and specific parts of British history. Admittedly a small niche, but still.

It's totally readable, but that's not really the point. I don't plan to give anyone a history lesson on the subway with this thing, it's just for me to *squee* over honesty. The day I finished it was the day they announced that the skeleton was actually Richard III! I almost fainted from the sheer awesomeness of that. So, here's my finished project. Not really garb, but, it kind of fits? And I sewed it, which was a feat in itself.
