dear friends and families,

we send you all our respect.  the season is coming to an end.  it makes us sad.  we actually dream of a time--not realistic--when faire will be ongoing.  when we can be with our sherwoodians more routinely.  we actually love faire for faire's sake more than the business venture it is.  that's likely why we so believe in the gatherings during the year.

for us, as it is for many of you, sherwood is an escape, a place where our dreams and ideals are played out.

for us, as it is for many of you, sherwood is a place and time where the best of the human experience can happen amidst a world outside that is crazed and mad and selfish and filled with alienation.

we embrace you.  we love you.  we dream with you.  and we paint this wonderful collage with you.

we want to invite you to a great social experience coming up sometime in may...we are gonna repair the mud show stage and the jail (and maybe even tackle another building structure) with waddle and daub.  it's a hoot.  we play in the mud and clay and water with hay...and spend a day slopping mud between yaupon weavings...as folk did for thousands of years...including the times of sherwood in the late twelveth century.

see you at sherwood for our final weekend.

the joust should be fantastic.

love and humility, much respect,

i have said this before, but it's worth repeating.

when george and i wrote our articles of incorporation as business partners, we have made it clear that sherwood will continue long past our two mortal lives and into the future for no less than 750 years.

I would like to request that the gatherings be set for NON holiday weekends.  Our group is made up of devoted family members who are obligated to spend time with their families, usually out of town and sometimes out of state during the holidays.  All of us would love to come out and volunteer time to better the village.  Unfortunately, we can't do holidays and we end up trying to cram in several months worth of work into a single weekend just to get our clan site ready for the upcoming faire season.

So if you would, please, purty please, consider hosting mass gatherings on weekends that do not coincide with a public holiday.  You may just find your number of volunteers increases exponentially.

Cast my vote with KP on that one. I often want to come to a gathering but can't because of family stuff going on.
I wouldn't say never have them on holiday weekends but maybe skipping a few of them and scheduling the gathering for the week before or after?
Regardless, I will do my best to make it whenever I can. Sherwood has earned my respect and support over and over  again and I will keep on giving it as long as I can.

I third the request on non-holiday weekends, as I must work them at my store in the 5th largest Hive in the country.

I have loved the Gatherings, and I HOPE against HOPE that I'm able to make the one in May.

Now, I must challenge you - why say you that the dream of faire being ongoing is not a realistic one???  Please, let's make this happen.  I pledge myself to this endeavor to return people to a sane world of being and living together.  Please...  Ask how many people would be interested through all the different ways available to you; yahoo group email, Sherwood web site, and Facebook pages.  Please remember that Sherwood's Facebook page doesn't seem to have a group function so that we can get news feeds directly from them to be able to reply or respond to requests on surveys or feedback.

As a playtron, I can say that Sherwood as a year long venture would not interest me.  Sherwood would then fall into the category of Disneyland.  But unlike Disneyland, Sherwood does not have millions in cash and a cast of fat head cartoon characters.  We try to make every weekend of Sherwood while it is open.  We purchase the FoF pass for all three of us and we enjoy our time in the forest.  But there is no way that we could afford to be apart of a year long faire consistently.  If it were year round, we would then have to decide when we wanted to visit.  Most likely, the summers would be out due to the Texas weather.  Our October and November are already booked up with another little faire near Houston.  December is too busy with holiday events.  In the end we would go probably around the same time that the faire is already open, but most likely would be less inclined to go as often "Because it's open all year, we can go at any time."  That's human nature.  Back to Disney as an example, I believe it's the same philosophy they use for their movies.  Why leave a movie on the shelves for ever.  If they only make it available for a short time they create demand.

Anyway, that's my thoughts  (o:

The idea of living history village is a nice one, but would be very tough to implement.

we have no plans to open faire all year.  we would like to have many other events -- medieval christmas, steampunk, carnivale type adult weekend, folk festival, etc -- in the future.  no interest in disneyesque type business either.  most of our interests in more activities/events are because we want to be among you all more.  we do very much believe in community.  its also why we continue gatherings!!!

Those are all excellent ideas.  I'm looking forward to Sherwood's future.
