Thank you! I learned a lot from the first one, so this is going quickly.  I' mo more nervous about the LM hat I'm making this weekend.  The crown is draped, the brim is covered-all that left is lining and a hat band. I seriously don't want to finish the brim edge like she says to....

Be sure to check your PMs, Rowan. I sent you 2 of them.

A Corset for Rowan to go under that GORGEOUS gown she is making. It goes to the Shoe repair on Monday for Grommetting.

Gettting there, getting there. Still needs the straps and lenses, and I'll be taking it a couple shades darker.

Rowan MacD

That is freaking cool.   Will you be painting it?

Wicked cool!  Will you be out showing it off opening weekend?  (Aug 17, 18)

I finally have progress pics to share!

I just had to post a pic of my new toy first. I went from this:

Piping machine, ready! by LadyRosalindWoodville, on Flickr

to this:

11 yards of piping in 4 minutes! by LadyRosalindWoodville, on Flickr

in 4 minutes! Of course, cutting the bias strips took a bit of time, but gem's link to the great trick to joining the ends made it go pretty fast!. I ended up having to go out to buy more piping cord, as the 2nd batch of cord I had ended up being too wide. Once I got home, the rest of the piping took less than 5 minutes again. Then I had to sew it all to the wide trim:

Which will go on the red overskirt, which I finished the pleating stitches for last night:

I don't remember who suggested using a beading needle for pleating stitches, but it worked wonderfully!

I also figured out the tab treatment finally. Just 26 more to go!

I also found an awesome necklace to wear with my new gown:

To do list for tonight: finish the waistband for the overskirt, and get to attaching the skirt, so I can get it hemmed this week.  ;D

Ooh! Ooh! Oooh!!! That is looking SMASHING!!! And how fun with your new toy. :D  (I've just done 22 tabs, myself!)

That is coming out smashing, Lady R.

By the way, how much was the piping machine? I may have to look into one of those as much as I love to pipe garb, Pillows, etc. Did you have to cut out bias strips to feed into the machine?

I'm so glad I came visiting again tonight. I've been in a holding pattern on most of my sewing since having a brother in law takes up a lot of room where my fabric should be.  But, now I have to get my projects out and worked on. Thank you for the inspiration!

Thanks, Lady Kathleen!

I got my piping machine at a second-hand store for $40, and I almost danced to the register! Regular price is $150 at JoAnn Fabrics, but they sometimes go on sale for 50% off. You still have to cut the bias strips, and use their special fusible film (they have their own piping cord, too, but it works with other cotton cords as well). It can do several thicknesses of piping, but you have to purchase the tips and the presser top (the purple thing on the machine in the photo - that set is included). If you go to the Simplicity site, it is the Deluxe Bias and Piping Machine, and you can see the various tips that are available. They also have machines that cut bias strips, but I've never used one.

For the bias tape part of this, it comes with a 1" tip, for single fold bias, and you can purchase single-fold tips, and quilt binding tips in other widths. The tips folds the strip, and the machine presses it while it feeds through. For coupon commotion at JoAnn's, I bought several tips at half off, so I'm set for awhile. :) I've already had friends ask if they can borrow it, but I am not sure I want to let it out of my sight!

There is something about the touch of blue that sets the trim off nicely. This ensemble will end up your BEST to date, Lady Rosiland.  :)

Love the trim Lady Rosalind!  That blue is just right to frame the other colors.
I have to get started on my skirt, I'm going to tryout the pleating tape I bought.

Rowan, did you pre-wash your pleating tape? I have some from Wawak, and I'm debating. I'm pretty sure I'll never be tossing the gown into the washing machine, but I still have this little nagging voice whispering, pre-treat, pre-treat.... Maybe I should try steam-shrinking it with the iron.

We'll see--I can't get the weekend off for certain, but will come if I'm free!
