 Gem-have you seen this picture?

Looks like a version of your armor.
The lady looks like she's using a  strapless fitted bodice under there to hold everything in place, then she tightened up the fit of the scales around that....

Rowan, that's great! I've been looking at waist cinchers & wondering if they'd help, but couldn't find any pictures that would help me visualize it. I think do think they'd provide some structure, at least. (I love the pointed edge on that; I'm bringing this photo to Amanda and Mike so they can add it to their repetoire!)

I think one of the things helping the armor in your link is that the halter neck and keyhole keep a lot of the visual emphasis above the bustline... but mine is all lower, and with the scales and the dip in the front, everything just points downward. Still, I have another fitting tonight and I'm hoping that The Serious Longline will take care of most of the issues. (Altho' I'm already wearing Serious Everyday Mundane Underpinnings in the original photo, so who knows!!)

ETA: I am back from my fitting (no pictures, alas), and am thrilled to report that Proper Underpinnings made *all* the difference. Huzzah! They're making just a couple more adjustments, but I should be able to pick it up this weekend!!

   Post pictures!
I think another thing that works for that lady in the picture- she has muscular arms and somewhat wide shoulders.  They slope, which gives her the illusion of a longer neck (jealous) so she avoids the square shape most people have.
Do your friends work leather? Have you considered some small, feminine looking shoulder armor to go with this?  Some thing in a light, stiff  leather,  trimmed in matching scales, or detailed with studs.   Have it made to stand out like epaulets, not molded to your shoulder caps.
This will give you an idea:

I would just get the top two segments and forget the parts that drop over the tops of the arms.  I would have them make you a matching girdle or belt too.
Or, your scales might look good draped over something like this:

The exaggerated shoulders would serve the same purpose as those oversize shoulder rolls did in Elizabethan times (or the '80's shoulder pads)  It draws the eye north and further balances the visual impression of the entire body.
There is some potential there for your friends to make purely decorative shoulder armor type ornaments for sale too. One size fits all ^_^.

Ok, now I want pauldrons.  ;)

Project #3 for this season, the beginnings of my Saxon gown:

Navy blue linen, apple green velvet. Corded bodice, frankenpatterned from my Italian working class dress and the Period Patterns German Puff & Slash Gown pattern. Fair starts in two weeks, and I still have skirt, sleeves, and hat to make. It's kind of my own personal Iron Dress challenge.  ::)

I've gotten the giornea or overdress for my outfit for this weekend of fair done.

It's out of a tablecloth I found at the thrift store.  I loved the color and the look of the damask and had to have it.  It's not very full looking in the photos due to the gown that goes under it not being done yet.  Once the gamurra is done, I'll take pictures of both of them together to show the completed outfit and how full it really is.

Now to finish the gamurra or gown....

Baby Pink pirate got sewed up this weekend. YAY!  However I am in need of decorating ideas.  I want her to hark back to the PP but I want her to have her own pink pirate princess personality.
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

Oh, my goodness - just had a forward flash peek about 14 years down the road.  Pink Princess in retro gothic, all black, lipstick, eyeliner, etc. just daring you to try to put her in ANYTHING pink. ???

Sorry, back to current events wherein you have a sweet scrumptious Pink Pirate Princess.   ;D

This a gown I am making for my friend.  It's the first complete gown all on my own.  I know there are things that are not HA, but since we aren't on a cast, we have the luxury of taking a few liberties.  Mrs. Schneider isn't the same size as my friend, so I expect it will look better on her.

Rowan MacD

 Very Pretty Irma!
What material did you use?  I like the pattern and sheen..

A former co worker's son came visit us and he was completely goth/ punk out. When we asked her why she let him dress that way.  She responded that he has a 3.75 GPA.  If he keeps his grades up he can dress as he likes. Her biggest threat is that if his grades go below a 3.0 he has to have a dye his hair back it's natural color,  military hair cut, polo shirt, dockers khaki's, and loafers.  Heh!  talk about a threat to a teenager.

I need to pick up some wide lace for the cuffs, skirt edge, and faux cravat.  I have gold braid and extra trim.  One thing that is nice is that I do so much stuff for the Pink Pirate and his flamingo brother I have lots of left over trim.

It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

In high school, my softball coach's daughter had a crazy hair color, shaved except for two stands of bangs, and dressed punk. My mom asked him why he let's her dress like that. He told her that she is a good kid with good grades, and its only hair. Hair grows back. Clothes can change. It's better than her rebelling by getting into drugs or a tattoo she might regret later.

Rowen MacD:
I don't know the fabric content.  It was a great bargain on etsy.  My friend loves pink.  The flowers on it remind me of a flattened carnation.

Gillyflowers! *Very* period. :) (Also also known as "pinks," from whose ragged edges we take the term "pinking.")

Very nice Irma. It makes me think of Eleanor Alvarez's betrothal gown.
