Has anyone seen living chess at Ren Faires?

Both Scarborough and Kansas City have live chess matches.   If you go to Youtube and put in Scarborough Festival Chess you'll find a number of clips.

They used to have it at Minnesota but haven't for many years.  There has been talk the last few years to get it up and running again, but who knows if they actually will.

  There has been some interest in having it at DMRF-We have the space, and the props would be reasonably simple to make-I suggested 6' poles with over sized chess pieces mounted on them or cutout outlines of the pieces.
  The problem is-To do a full out scripted game-as-show it takes at least 16-20 people, more than the smaller faires can get together.

Three of the faires I visit have living chess matches: the New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania Renaissance Faires all have them.

Bay Area Ren Fest down in tampa has it every year!  It is by far my most favorite of all the faires we've been to

We have a human chess match at Ohio Ren Fest! This year the pirate captain's play against Sir Francis Drake to see who is the best Sea Dog!

I know Bristol had it with cast and faire visitors.  That was always fun.

Tenn has a combat chess match.

You really don't need props. Scarborough does a good job with just people. DMRF could always recruit playtrons for the chess match.

The Norman Medfaire has one.  You have to get there early though to sit close as that event has over 300,000 attendees in 1 weekend and gets noisy.  I had a slideshow running on my computer today of the old King Arthur Faire in Stroud, OK.  They had a living chess board as well.

KYHRF had one (or at least did year before last, when I last went) that the guests could play, and TNRF has one that's cast-only.
