My post from earlier today, on fb.  I seldom cut and paste, but this was kind of emotional for me, and I don't think I could say anything else at all that would describe how I feel about this day... 


I've been thinking today about gratitude, and about safety... and about service. And I've also been thinking about how to express these things to people I've never met, as well as those I've known for a while, or even longer...
There are some among us who, at some point during their lives, made a choice to put on a uniform and take up arms to protect and defend this country, it's people, and the laws, ideals and freedoms it embodies... regardless of the risks and uncertainties that decision entailed. Some are now home, safe, with their families, their service at an end... and some still serve every day, in harm's way, their futures unclear. Others have made unimaginable sacrifices, and many have paid an ultimate price that is forever on the minds of those who love them still, and miss them every moment.
For anyone who has ever worn that uniform, or is wearing it still, from any military branch, whether in peacetime or in war, and no matter how long your service... I thank you. For standing between those I love and danger... for risking everything so that others could feel safe and secure in their daily lives... and for daring to BE the line drawn in the sand. Thank you... ALL of you.
