would fingerweaving be period?
I just finished another scarf ( I do it when I'm bored)
and I was thinking about trying to figure out how to make a snood using the technique.. Haven't found anything online about it though.. (I'm in texas and didn't want to get my soda tabs taken away by the airport security, and ya'lls hobby lobby is AMAZINGLY big and organized... )

I'm not sure what "finger weaving" is, but there is a period technique called finger-loop braiding that may (or may not) be similar:  http://fingerloop.org/

Jeudi and I took a stab at your wiki on finger weaving and came up with 10 finger weaving.  Would make an adorable scarf.  Really sucks when the phone rings, though.  Hehe

ooo newb, that's a great idea, I hadn't thought of using a comb, I mean I own the knifty knitter, but hate carrying it around sometimes...

Well, I'm trying the comb and a pick, but I keep wrapping it too tight.  Maybe I should try thinner yarn.

I was thinking of your snood idea.  I think if you got two people (or bribe some kids) to stand side-by-side long enough with their hands out, you might get something wide enough for a snood.    Maybe you could just crochet/weave/braid/whatever two  or three pieces together.  Our "10 finger" piece woven loosely is about 6-7" wide.  Good luck with it.

lol i had pondered getting the boyfriend to sit still long enough to use his... buwahahhaha

And as for the string breaking, I haven't figured out how to fix that either (on the knifty knitter) I'm constantly breaking my strings, which is one of the reasons I don't use it very often, altough i saw an instruction thing online that makes me think I may have been doing it wrong..

If you use the dollar store combs you may be able to break off every other and give yourself a little extra room... also don't push the weaving down all the way is a good idea usually.

Link below is one of my attempts at pick knitting. Or, should I call it "knit picking"? I do that quite well.  lol.

It didn't actually break the yarn, but, I it was so tight I couldn't get it over the top yarn.  I loosened it up, especially on the sides, and it seems to work better.  Later tonight we are going to try the fat comb, which I think will work better.  It has a slight knob on the top of each tooth.  Jeudi wants to try a scarf.

the way i finish the ends on a lot of my scarves is to make a pom pom and tie it on it usually looks really nice.

That is why it works:)  My guildmistress discourages snoods in general, but will tolerate it if I really want one.  But she insists (rightly) that crocheting as not period and I can't find a knitted version that I like.   I like the netted look and it is h/a:)

Jeudi and I are having fun with this finger weave thing! 

I have another possible idea for a snood.  I recently found a crochet tutorial from Annie's Attic for a technique called Loop n' Lace.  I used the same principle to join to finger-weaved pieces together.  This way you could join it into a tube.

If anything, at least we can make wider scarves.
