Vending at a con is rough - you sit and watch all the fun stuff go by but you can't leave your table!  We've started taking turns manning the table so we each have time to go to panels, shop, etc - makes it more fun for each of us.

(sigh)  We're missing our small local Con this weekend, unfortunately...  :(  It's called SoonerCon, and it's always fun, even though it's not at all huge like CONvergence, or any of the other large ones.  We have themes every year, also... and this year's theme is Darkness Falls.  We were supposed to have passes waiting for us, but apparent;y there was a mix-up, and we'll be sitting home this year, waiting to see the photos on the Book of Faces, instead.

My daughter and I have gone every year for the past several... and we're both missing it.  Not really missing the vending, though, since it keeps us from being able to do anything else!

We will eventually be able to do that, as well, but since my daughter is currently only 13, and it's just the two of us... well, neither of us get to leave for very long at a time.  I don't let her wander around the con by herself, although I will let her shop in the vendor's hall... and I usually only leave to take privy breaks and get food for us.  Most of the time a single booth space only comes with two passes, as well, and I can't usually afford to buy an extra to give someone in exchange for watching the booth for us during breaks.  I'm not really sure how much vending we'll be doing in the future, though... because it's hard to even cover costs in this area.  Not a lot of folks have disposable income in this economy, I guess...

Wow, Isabella... that was FAST!  It's very pretty!  Hopefully you can get pics of you wearing it, soon.  :)

Thanks, Rani!   :D  Handsewing doesn't take very long - unless you are doing embroidery.  Embroidery takes FOREVER.   I should have pictures of me wearing the dress by mid August.   I plan on wearing it at Pennsic.

It's hard for me to believe it's already July!  That's over 1/3 of the summer already gone... and I haven't even finished the project I've been working on since early May.  I need to get busy, I think!

We struggle with this, too. It's either miss the con, or miss the sales. Alas, Milord (or anyone) can't really take turns at my booth--I'm the author, and people want to buy the books from me;) Cons usually supply staff to man your booth while you're doing panels or appearances, but they're there to watch your stuff, not make sales. (shrug)

One thing that helps--great cosplay, and carry your business cards (with your booth number) while you walk the floor. You can strike up conversations with people, and direct them back to your part of the hall. And they'll remember you, because "you were the person with Radagast," (or whatever).

The shower tent.  Technically, I still need to add some loops to the bottom so I can stake it out but it's pretty much finished.  I couldn't find a branch in my backyard that worked to hang it up well so it's a ...well at a major slant in the pictures.  I just needed to see if the papasan could easily withstand the weight and if I could get it up on a branch myself.  :-)

Okay, now it's really done.  :-)  And it makes an AWESOME fort!

I debuted my new Elizabethan Gown with the pearled forepart and sleeves last night at the annual SciFi/Fantasy convention called CONvergence. Needless to say, it was an absolute hit.

Despite the many people who attend this convention, it was those wearing costumes made out of synthetic fabrics who were sweating. Me, I was very comfortable for the 11 hours I wore my ensemble.

Love the rain tent! Is there a water source at your camp site?

Beautiful! I can't even imagine how many hours involved in the beading of your dress.

Lady Kathleen of Olmsted

Close to 40 hours beading, Stuben. THAT is what TV is for.   ;D

Yes, but I'll have it hooked up to my trailer.  My vardo has a kitchen sink.  For the shower tent, I have a solar shower that I'll just fill up using the sink and put out in the tent when the water gets warm.  It looks to only take an hour or two - which isn't bad for 5 gallons of water.

LadyK... exquisite, as always!  You are lovely in your new gown, and in your new shape, as well!  Of course, you have always been lovely, but you are radiant these days!  :)

Isabella... your bathing tent looks like the perfect backyard fort!  I think I might have to explore our local craigslist to see if I can find another papasan base (I found one for almost nothing for my daughter's room several months ago), and perhaps create a cozy little nook in our yard.  I've been wanting to make something similar using some of the saris I have been hoarding for years, now... and this looks to be just the thing!  :)

I weighed in this evening at Weight Watchers and I am down another 2 pounds for a total of 55 1/4,
Rani. I plan to lose a few more and then I will be done. And thank you for  the compliment.
