Cilean

So this is a gown I have been working on for the past year, I had some illness and issues with my wrists that caused me to slow down and just do basic things (good thing I have loads of garb already ;)  )

so this has to be fixed as you can see the front hikes up and you really can't see the forepart at all, so I am going to put some ties on so that  you can see it, someone while at Costume College, not a costumer, stepped on the back of my gown and took out my guard, and I did not get my French Hood done nor my Italian Bonnet, so those will be done in the next few weeks I will have this gown on at Northern California Renaissance Faire, so if you see me? Please come by and say Hi!

The Corset is back from the Shoe Repair and laced with the rest of the enhsemble.

The gown itself is Kona Cotton. The sleeves and Overskirt, Chiffon. The Petticoat is prewashed Muslin. The Bride wanted simple and light. This was a pleasure to do. I have yet to French Bustle the back, as there is a train. I also need another roll of ribbon as well.

Oh, LadyK, it's lovely!  What a beautiful bride she will make!

Cliean, for some reason I can't see the photos you posted.  :(

A sneak peak at my latest project.  I don't have enough glass pearls to bead the entire forepart, but it will look pearly with the 200 I do have.  :-)

I love that material Isabella, I have yet to find anything at Joanns' or Hancocks with any  even vaguely geometric patterns I can use.   The pearls look great!

I too love that fabric, Isabella. It screams out "pearl me".

I order my glass pearls from Fire Mountain Gems in 4mm, 6mm, and 8mm in bunches because I love to bead. They have glass beads in a variety of colors for anything else worth embellishing for very reasonable prices.

I have to "third" the fabric love, Isabella... that's gorgeous!  I can picture it finished, also... and I can already tell it's going to be breathtaking.  The creamy sort of pink champagne tint to the pearls is a wonderful compliment, as well!

Isabella, that is wonderful fabric. I think the pearls work really well with the texture.

Some updates on the Dress of Red Death, as I'm now affectionately calling it:

I'm overall happy with it so far, I need to at least triple the hooks on the top, as she's gone from it being too large to it needing the extra closures, and despite her reservations and with my dear friend's advice, I'm going to add a hoop to it so it gives it the proper shape.  Other than that and some other small tweaks, it's just about done.  And I love it and hate it, since I've been working on it for so long.  It's a lot of firsts for me: first boned anything, first beading project, first hoop skirt (that's next).

Also, why can people never stay still when you're trying to take their picture?

Please do take some more photos when you get the hoop and the extra closures added.
I looks intriguingly lovely so far.

Very pretty!  I'm also looking forward to seeing it with the hoops!

I'm curious, though... are you planning to add guards to the bottom of the skirt to account for any shortening effect the hoops may have?  I've never worn hoops (because all of my garb is gypsy, pirate, middle working class or middle eastern), so I've never had to deal with that... but I do know that when I wear 3 petticoats (when it drops down into the 40's at TRF, on occasion) there is a noticeable shortening of my overskirt.

I was just going to ask the same question (and also add that it is turning out beautifully!). Depending on your hoop size, the length may go from fine to alarmingly short in 30 seconds with the hoop.

Still working on the pearly dress but I'm also working on making the brown gown from Anne of a Thousand Days (aka Power gown).  Here's the forepart for it:

The pearly dress needs to be done by Sept 27.  The brown gown by Oct 11.  I also have to get an Edwardian done by the end of the week!

I have actually built in some extra length for her; in the pictures she's wearing obscenely high heels, so the hoop should bring it to the right length when it's added. I was afraid at first, too that it would be a problem but another fitting minus the shoes confirmed all should be well. :)

Isabella, the color for that dress is gorgeous!
