I agree with Keeper! This thread must continue!

Maybe you can pass the rum bottle of the countdown to another person if you can't do it anymore Laird? I would hate to see this go!

This forum is not getting the traffic it once did, but it is so much more readable than FB ever could be.  There can be actual, on-going conversations here.  With FB, I can open my newsfeed (timeline, front page, whatever name they choose for today), close it, then reopen it within seconds and there are different posts showing up.  Close it and reopen again, and some of posts are still showing, others disappear, then show up again.

Algorithms seem to be written by 12 year old boys who are used to gaming and have no idea that there are no NPCs in real life.  Sorry, kids, but some of us have attention spans longer than those of gnats.

I couldn't agree more. The FB interface makes no sense to me and I program for a living. Not sure what that says about the millions of humans who use that platform.

All you need to do is watch the news...and see the ongoing meltdown.  :o

The news is depressing. People blaming people for all the people's problems. No one taking responsibility. Focus diverted to the trivial while the corrupt monumental take over the world.

Fortunately, I can sit and drink rum and wait for my Jesus to carry me away (o:

I absolutely agree, PollyPoPo.  The R/F forum is well organized and the topics are easy to see.  The junk in Facebook is organized (somewhat) chronologically, with the exception of pinned posts.  As you mentioned, different things will appear depending on when you access it.  Threaded forums like R/F are much more logical and it is easier to access than FB.  FB's group search function leaves a lot to be desired.

And you can't use your faire name, or FB willl cancel your account.  I know some people who have used their faire name for awhile, but if someone reports it, they will lock your account and demand proof of identification to restore it.  Not an urban legend, I know of at least three people who had that happen.  You can open another account as a "Public Figure" or "Fictional Character," but then you have a separate log in, set of friends, etc., and it still suffers from the crappy algorithm with poor search functionality.

Fraser, I hope you keep the Countdown thread going as long as this site is up.  We can use it as a form of protest.   :D
