Steve got the ghillie shoes, not the high boots.  Our previous shoes were Dreamshoes, which has now gone out of business.  We found out that Renboots took the patterns from Dreamshoes and took over making the shoes.  We have had our Dreamshoes for 12 years, mine are still going strong, but Steve's came apart at the sole after wearing them every time to faire for over 11 years (he just got his first pair of boots this year, so he wore the Dreamshoes all the time before these boots).

So Steve has been very happy with the quality, which is why he chose the ghillies from Renboots. He has very weird feet, and he decided he had to try them on rather than order through the mail.

Can't give an opinion on the high ghillie boots, cause we don't know.

Steve wore his ghillies shoes from Renboots to Bristol on Monday.  The first day of wearing them, he wore them all day, and he loves them.  No need to break in, no blisters, no sore feet.  He said they felt like wearing butter.

Our friend Lord Phillip bought a pair of noble's shoes on Sunday from Renboots and wore them all day Sunday and Monday with the same results.

Comfy shoes, both men were very pleased.  And they look really nice, too!

just for the record. . .
i understand they are claiming they bought or have permission to copy the styles.
they do not !
they took the designs without permission of the designer.

Hey everybody, I just started an innocent little thread about ghillies.  Please, let's keep this friendly or else this thread will be locked.

There's always Renmail which is private, so the whole forum doesn't read it.  Don't forget, we are always looking for new members and we don't want anyone to not join if they think some of the content isn't friendly.

Thank you.

The quality of the shoes(marcie's) is just as nice if not better as the original Dream Shoes

since were on the subject. . .

this time last year i had people come into my booth at the Minnesota RenFest complaining
about and seeking relief after purchasing "marcie's" (as renboot's calls them) at Bristol.
i had to explain i could not exchange the shoes or refund their money
because i was not the maker. that they had bought unauthorized copies of our shoes.
then showed them the differences in materials and craftsmanship.

i have also been contacted by a merchant from the NYRF.
who recognize our shoes designs and inquired what happened to our quality?
i had to explain that what was being sold there were not made by us.

now now let's not go getting nasty!

excuse me. . .  but i do know the facts of the matter
and far more details than i will go into here in these forums.

i understand you may believe the tale that you are repeating to be the true,
but it is simply a cover story that is being spread.

i had a phone conversation with Doug last year when i first became aware he copied our designs.  Doug hung up.

i have known Richard Burden the owner of Bald Mountain, since the mid 80's.
he is now retired and living in his home on the ski slopes of Park City UT.
i just spoke with him three hours ago.

since 1969 i have known and worked with Richard Baumann of Native Soles
the designer of the shoes known and sold as 'Dream Shoes'
through Bald MT's booth's at some RenFest, Wild Oats, Wild Soles & Willing soles
at our own shops at other RenFaires. he died from leukemia in June last year.
i will see his widow & son this evening when i leave the shop here in Orange County CA.
where we still make the shoes with the same patterns, dyes
& equipment that they have always been made with.

neither i nor the family have any agreement with RenBoots to make these shoes.
his widow want's this stopped and is looking into legal options to remedy the situation.

the Embossed Leather Journals, Pouches & Mugs you speak of are created and have
always been made by Brenden Smith of Oberon Designs in Santa Rosa CA.

i do have the facts on my side and i can back them up!
i think that's all that needs be said here.

FYI... shoe designs, clothing designs are not copywritable and cannot be copywrited. Just because someone copies a design of an article of clothing or shoes it does not make them a thief, no matter how you look at it. Happens ALL the time in the textile and shoe industry. There is no espionage about it.  It's just the way it is.

I will not comment any further on this thread.

Point is you stated "The deal to take over the design and to make the shoes was struck last year WITH THE FAMILY MEMBERS OF THE (former) OWNER, who by the way has since passed away. Your statement, such as it is, is incorrect and slanderous."

That statement is indeed incorrect and instead of side-stepping the issue with a lecture on copyrighting clothing designs you would have been better to acknowledge the correction.

And FYI: Certain elements of clothing designs can be copyrighted. The design embossed or imprinted on textiles or fabrics may be entitled to copyright protection. This means that designs or elements of a fashion may be copyrightable to the extent that the element can be conceptually or physically separated from the utilitarian nature of the article.
