I just wanted to say thanks to the lovely person who posted a photo of their parasol holder.  I know I saw it snuck into one of these threads, but I can't seem to find it.  I purchased a parasol this past weekend and a bracer to tie to my belt to hold it when not in use.  I never would have bothered with the parasol if I'd had to carry it around by hand all day.  Using a bracer as a carrier was a very clever idea.  It worked so very well!

Thanks again!

Oh, that *is* brilliant!  Huzzah!

May I ask how you attach the bracer to your belt?  My bracers are laced up with a rather short leather thong, and I'm not sure that would work tied to my belt.  Hmm.

Toki made mine this year... very simple. if your ties are to short, replace them. All Toki did was take a piece of black leather about 6 inches or so long, made sure it wrapped around my parasol, punched holes into each side to tie it, and sewed on two tie straps (Not the ones that lace it up. This keeps it balanced.

One issue I had was it was often times catching on things in shops and caused my girdle belt to break. Lucky for me I was prepared for wardrobe malfunctions and fixed it. So be very careful when you walk around things in shops. Also do not tie it onto jewelery girlde belts as they will break. On my 2nd visit I had some thick cord that matched my dress and used that to anchor it to. This worked much better. and onmy copper dress the coed was hidden under my bodice but the color matched so it was no big deal.

I tied the bracer closed at the wider part with a double knot.  Then the remaining string, I tied into a double knot again, with space between the knots to slip onto my belt.  I wore my noble garb this weekend and wore a plain black belt under the bodice, so you couldn't see it.  The belt took the weight of the bracer holding the parasol.

Several people came up to me and told me what a great idea it was to use a bracer for a parasol holder.  So of course I touted the forum, saying that this is the place where you find the best ideas!

The bracer I purchased had a rather long cord.  I cinched the bracer close and knotted it shut.  Then with the remaining cord I tied it to my belt.
Here's a photo Naween took of our group that shows my backside with the bracer...

It occurs to me that something else might work is that the drinking horn place at MDRF sells leather horn holders that attach to one's belt to hold the drinking horn upright (so you can walk around with your drink hands free! Or just not have to deal with slinging the horn over your shoulder with a strap or whatnot). Something like that might also work.

I just adored that idea since i saw it a while back!  I don't have any garb that i'd use the parosol with right now, but this is an idea that needs a piece of garb to go around it!  Genius!!

Hey so everyone knows, I'm in the process of making a bit more of a not-so-jerryrigged version of a holder.  Just gotta wait for it to dry so I can dye it and pound a few grommets.

I'll post a pic when it's done!
