Not a new project but a redo. I made the Italian loose gown/zimarra last spring but wasn't happy with the original sleeves. I liked the idea of short sleeves to show the sleeves of the gown underneath but couldn't find any portraits showing short sleeves. (I found a ton of portraits showing short sleeves on a fitted Italian overgown but not on a loose gown.) Then I stumbled across this portrait:

Domenico Riccio (Il Brusasorci), before 1567: Portrait of a Lady

which inspired my new sleeves:

Very lovely and most obviously accurate as well!!

Wow, awesome! It looks so.... period. And you know, Niccolo dell'Abbate has a painting of (what I assume is) a short-sleeved zimarra as well:

Oh! That does look like a zimarra or turkish coat, doesn't it?

MDRF has a Day of Wrong and I went this year as a FOP.  This costume as a joint effort between my  wife and I.  I made the hat, all the piccadils, waist band, leg bands and all the panes for slops and she did the rest.  I still have a lot more to do to  it but as usual, we just flat ran out of time.  Enjoy.

And I thought my husband and his best friend's costume was ....  well I think the ante has been raised.  Hubby and I collaborated on ours as well but they didn't turn out as well as yours.  :( We will just have to keep plotting for the next faire.

Ok the rogue wanted to say, holy crap that is gorgeous. we know it isn't finished but that is an amazing outfit.   :D
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

Master James

Thanks so much!  Yeah I still have some more to do to it yet.  I LOVE the all pink though.  That is GREAT!

A FOPS's ensemble is never finished, Master James. I can't wait to see what you add to your ensemble.

Master James, I take my hat off to you!  Just too GOOD to be "wrong"!

Well, faire season may be over in this neck of the woods, but there's still Halloween! We decided to just use our garb for Halloween this year, but it's little cold right now. So, my lovely wife, Cheri, made me a cloak! It's our own design, she did it freehand. We took the kids trick-or-treating at the mall tonight, and took some pics of the newly finished cloak. It's made from canvas duck, and I'm gonna get some waterproofing on it for next season.

Great cloak!  What do you mean by "getting waterproofing"?

Wow that DOES sound perfect!  I'll have to look into that when I have the time!  Certainly before next season for sure!

(from the book "Modelejon" by Nina Rangström)

Erik Sture's outfit is unique, because it survives in two forms: the actual outfit, plus a 16.th century portrait of it, painted a few years before he was murdered:
