I have recently been asked to costume design a production of Peter Pan, which will be performed in June on an outdoor stage. My question is this: does anyone have some recommendations for pirate patterns? I'd love to hear which ones you've found the easiest to use and understand. I have volunteer stitchers, with sometimes minimal experience but a lot of enthusiasm, so I want to make things as easy as I can for them once casting is set in April.

My MIL and I have both made pieces from McCall's 4952, which comes in unisex adult *and* child sizes, with the bonus of having lots of different pieces.  I think it's a pretty basic, beginner-friendly pattern.  Since it sounds like you'll be doing mostly crew (not a whole bunch of frock-coated Captain Hooks!), this might work out nicely.

thanks Gem & Athena!
I have the advantage of being able to pull some basic stuff from stock: shirts, some pants, skirts, but making them look piratey is going to be the fun part and having some opinions on what's easy to make is wonderful

I'll probably end up building Capt. Hook's frock coat myself-I've been wanting to make one, and I'm so excited that now I have a really good reason to do it.

Well, I know better than to argue with you, I'll have to take a look.
