Song lyric stuck in my head...

Last night and tonight, Van Morrison takes to the stage with most of the original members that played on "Astral Weeks," at the Hollywood Bowl.  This is one of my top 10 recordings of all time.  I'm there in spirit.  Here's the lyrics to "Beside You," which has special significance to me:

Little Jimmy's gone way out of the back streets
Out of the window, into the falling rain,
And he's right on time, right on time.
That's why broken arrow waved his finger
Down the road so dark and narrow
In the evening just before the sunday sixbells chime
And way out on the highway
All the dogs are barkin way down below
And you wander away from your hillside retreated view
Went to wanderin northbridge way out on the railroad
Together all the tipping trucks will unload
All the scrapbooks built together stuck with glue
And Ill stand beside you, beside you

Oh child, to never wonder why
To never, never, never, never wonder why at all
To never, never, never, never wonder why
Its gotta be, it has to be

Across the crystal pavements
Way across the country where the hillside mountains glide
The dynamo of your smile caressed the
Barefoot virgin child
To wander past your window in the nighttime cross the floor
Crying as ecstasy surrounds you
Through the night air your proud time is open
Go well against the pointed idle breeze

Past the footlights of the brazen silence easy
In the night you cry and you want spirits to tell you
Everything's alright
Go ahead and do it one more time baby
You're satisfied I guess, you're way up and the sky comes down
Kaleidoscope

Open and just hold the lantern in the doorway,
For the freedom of it.
And you take the night air through your nostrils and you breathe
In out, you breathe out, you breathe in
And you breathe just like that, just like that

How does it get you when it gets you
When it gets ya
You may not know itss got you until you turn around
And Ill point a finger at you, point a finger at you
You say which way, which way
Thats alright, we've gotten hip to it
Goin to do it right now.
Behind you
Beside you, beside you

Oh child to never wonder why
To never, never, never, never wonder why at all
Never never never never wonder why at all.

Here's my favorite one, Nickie--

I've been searching a long time
For someone exactly like you
I've been travelling all around the world
Waiting for you to come through
Someone like you makes it all worth while
Someone like you keeps me satisfied
Someone exactly like you

I've been travellin' a hard road
Lookin' for someone exactly like you
I've been carryin' my heavy load
Waiting for the light to come shining through
Someone like you makes it all worth while
Someone like you keeps me satisfied
Someone exactly like you

I've been doin' some soul searching
To find out where you're at
I've been up and down the highway
In all kinds of foreign lands
Someone like you...

I've been all around the world
Marching to the beat of a different drum
But just lately I have realized
The best is yet to come

And with a different spin on it...

Another great one, another one I certainly can feel resonance with.  Too bad there aren't any youtubes of the one I put up, but there might be after this show at the Hollywood Bowl, since they're recording it for a live release.  Nice pairing of song to images with the clip, WW.

Isn' it though?
Makes you wonder if he was the one she really loved.

Oddly, there are none of Van Morrison doing 'Moondance' on youtube.

There are some pretty good ones elsewise, though, including several from "Astral Weeks."  YouTube is a great source for obscure video performances (even though Van Morrison would in no way be considered obscure), I've dug up some great stuff you'd never think you'd find anywhere in there.  Back on topic, I woke up this morning still thinking of "Beside You."  I'm sure something else will come in and take over as the day progresses.

I love this whole soundtrack but this has been stuck in my head for DAYS!!!!

And now I'm all alone again,
Nowhere to go, no one to turn to.
Without a friend, without a home,
Without a face to say Hello to.
And now the night is near,
Now I can make believe he's here.

Sometimes I walk alone at night
When everybody else is sleeping.
I think of him, and then I'm happy
With the company I'm keeping.
The city goes to bed,
And I can live inside my head.

On my own,
Pretending he's beside me.
All alone,
I walk with him till morning.
Without him,
I feel his arms around me,
And when I lose my way I close my eyes
And he has found me.

In the rain,
The pavement shines like silver.
All the lights
Are misty in the river.
In the darkness,
The trees are full of starlight,
And all I see is him and me for ever and forever.

But I know
It's only in my mind,
That I'm talking to myself
And not to him.
And although I know that he is blind,
Still I say,
There's a way for us.

I love him,
But when the night is over,
He is gone,
The river's just a river.
Without him,
The world around me changes.
The trees are bare and everywhere
The streets are full of strangers.

I love him,
But every day I'm learning,
All my life,
I've only been pretending!
Without me,
His world will go on turning,
The world is full of happiness that I have never known!

I love him...
I love him...
I love him...
But only on my own...

Bus stop, wet day, she's there, I say,
"Please share my umbrella."
Bus stop, bus goes, she stays, love grows
Under my umbrella.

All that summer we enjoyed it,
Wind and rain and shine.
That umbrella we employed it.
By August, she was mine.

Every morning I would see her waiting at the stop.
Sometimes she'd shop,
And she would show me what she'd bought.
All the people stared as if we were both quite insane.

Someday my name and hers are going to be the same.

That's the way the whole thing started.
Silly, but it's true.
Thinking of a sweet romance
Beginning in a queue.

Came the sun the ice was melting,
no more sheltering now.
Nice to think that that umbrella
Led me to a vow.

You left me here on your way to paradise
You pulled the rug right out from under my life
I know where you going' to I knew when you came home last night
'Cause your eyes had a mist from the smoke of a distant fire

Lord, I was stung shoulda' seen it come a long time ago
When I realized the reality gave me a role
If things are the same then explain why your kiss is so cold
and that mist in your eyes feels like rain on the fire in my soul

This lying, and cryin', is upsettin' and gettin' ya no where
It don't stack up, so slack up and pack up
I just don't care
Don't let the screen door hit you on your way out
Don't you drown when your dream boat runs onto the ground

I'd just like to know do you love him or just making time
By filling his glass with your fast flowing bitter-sweet wine.
He'll taste the aftertaste when you come home late some night
With your eyes all a mist from the smoke of a distant fire

I now have this Bob Dylan song stuck in my head due to a recent article on the msn page:

Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Whatever colors you have in your mind
Ill show them to you and youll see them shine

Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Stay, lady, stay, stay with your man awhile
Until the break of day, let me see you make him smile
His clothes are dirty but his hands are clean
And youre the best thing that hes ever seen

Stay, lady, stay, stay with your man awhile
Why wait any longer for the world to begin
You can have your cake and eat it too
Why wait any longer for the one you love
When hes standing in front of you

Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Stay, lady, stay, stay while the night is still ahead
I long to see you in the morning light
I long to reach for you in the night
Stay, lady, stay, stay while the night is still ahead

Now according to this article...  'Ol Bob is serenading a CHICKEN  ;D :o ;D :o

She's got a way about her
I don't know what it is
But I know that I can't live without her
She's got a way of pleasin'
I don't know what it is
But there doesn't have to be a reason anyway

She's got a smile that heals me
I don't know why it is
But I have to laugh when she reveals me
She's got a way of talkin'
I don't know why it is
But it lifts me up when we are walkin' anywhere

She comes to me when I'm feelin' down
Inspires me without a sound
She touches me and I get turned around
She's got a way of showin'
How I make her feel
And I find the strength to keep on goin'

She's got a light around her
And ev'rywhere she goes
A million dreams of love surround her ev'rywhere

She comes to me when I'm feelin' down
Inspires me without a sound
She touches me and I get turned around

She's got a smile that heals me
I don't know why it is
But I have to laugh when she reveals me
She's got a way about her
I don't know what it is,
But I know that I can't live without her anyway

I know we're all supposed to know...But could everyone please give proper credit?  I'm a true believer in back-announcing.  The artists/writers are particularly grateful for it!

The Money-Go-Round by The Kinks~

Robert owes half to Grenville
Who in turn gave half to Larry
Who adored my instrumentals
And so he gave half to a foreign publisher
She took half the money that was earned in some far distant land
Gave back half to Larry and I end up with half of goodness knows what
Oh can somebody explain why things go on this way
I thought they were my friends I can't believe it's me, I can't believe that I'm so green
Eyes down round and round let's all sit and watch the moneygoround
Everyone take a little bit here and a little bit there
Do they all deserve money from a song that they've never heard
They don't know the tune and they don't know the words
But they don't give a damn
There's no end to it I'm in a pit and I'm stuck in it
The money goes round and around and around
And it comes out here when they've all taken their share
I went to see a solicitor and my story was heard and the writs were served
On the verge of a nervous breakdown I decided to fight right to the end
But if I ever get my money I'll be too old and grey to spend it
Oh, but life goes on and on and no one ever wins
And time goes quickly by just like the moneygoround
I only hope that I'll survive

You can take me to paradise
and then again you can be cold as ice
I'm over my head
but it sure feels nice

You can take me anytime you like
I'll be around if you think you might
Love me baby and hold me tight

Your mood is like a circus wheel
You're changin' all the time
Sometimes I can't help but feel
that I'm wastin' all of my time....

Think I'm lookin' on the dark side
but everyday you hurt my pride
I'm over my head
but it sure feels nice

I'm over my head
but it sure feels nice

Thanks Lady Nicolette, posting the credit also saves doing an internet search for the lyrics we don't recognize. I played Pink Floyd's- Dark Side of the Moon for one of my classes and one of my students said, "That Pink Floyd guy is pretty weird, I've never heard him before!"
