I remember hearing about Harbor Freight Tools here on the boards, and bemoaning the fact that (like Tandy Leather) that's a store we don't have here.

Well. This week I took a run to JoAnn for fabric, and as I pulled into the parking lot, something sparked in my memory. Sure enough, the hardware store right next door is Harbor Freight!

Well, in all my excitement, I couldn't remember what they're so well known for. I didn't have time to stop in that day, but Milord and I will probably take a run over there soon enough (a leather worker at GSLRF recommended an inexpensive rotary tool they carry).

What should I look for?

You might want to check their Web Site to see what they carry.

And also look at their Sales Flyer for their Weekly Specials.

It's easy to find a lot of different specialty tools that they carry.  Just wander the aisles with your cart.   ;) :D

You get cheap tools from them.  Not industrial quality, but good enough for the home handyman.  I have one of their drill presses I bought at half price.  I know several people who have bought hydraulic presses from them.

Also, their air tools are pretty good quality, and pretty inexpensive.

What tools do you need?

I've been hearing about Harbor Freight for a while now, also, from a few people here on the boards, and I just got a sales flyer in last weeks Sunday paper, so I guess we have them now, also!  I'll have to figure out where they're located and stop in to look around one day soon... y'know, just to see what's there...  ;)  LOL

They sometimes carry the heavy duty ties. I picked 5 packs foe 2$ ea. They don't always have them but when they do I snag them up.

Ah. Genievea, that must be it! It's more convenient to me than Home Depot, so that'll definitely a place I check next time.

Probably won't need a drill press very soon.  ;D

I don't know, a drill press is VERY convenient!  I use mine all the time!

C'mon, get one!  All the cool kids have one.

I wouldn't mind having my own drill press!  Of course, I'd have to buy a garage to go along with it...  :D

You can get rope there!! Umm.. i don't know what else, if I'm going into a hardware store, it's usually for rope <giggle>.

Harbor Freight has these neat little plastic spring clamps -- ultra inexpensive.  I used them (instead of pins) when I was piecing together panels of a tent ... but they're great substitutes for piecing pretty much anything rather than using pins.

If you're into Steampunk, there're lots of good accessories here, too.

They have everything!  Cast iron at really good prices.  Their stocking can be funny, sometimes they have things sometimes they don't.  Go often!  Sign up for the sales flyer so you will get coupons.  Some of the tools are really cheap but if you only use them a couple times it's worth it.  $5 wood burning kit!  Sometimes they have canvas and burlap bags super cheap!  NEVER buy burlap from a fabric store. ;)  Sometimes I'm really surprised at what they have!
