My guess is a hibiscus, growing amidst some other foliage

Very definitely a hibiscus, and looks like a fan palm surrounding it. What a lovely shot!

Nice shot, a big fan of flowers, but that's a good one.

DragonWing

;) Tipsy Gypsy you are correct. It is a hibiscus and it is behind the fan palm. This was just outside the door to the office of the resort I stayed at. It was so unique looking I had to take a picture.   Thanks for the compliments.

DW if I'm ever in that area I just might have to stay at that resort for a night cause the view is absolutely beautiful.

Well, DW, I sorta have a "thing" for hibiscus :). The perennial varieties do quite well here in Texas; here's one of mine:

Wish I had a good shot of the whole bloom. The perennials can get up to  12" across!

Lordwriothsley, my partner and I stayed in Quepos Costa Rica and the views are outstanding. A little remote though but relaxing and I hear the fishing is excellent if your into that.

:o WOW Tipsy Gypsy, what a shot. That is stunning.

I still wear them in the winter, it's just warmer on the "inside" in spring/summer. Although now that I have a few choices of Scotch it doesn't realy matter anymore.
