Lady Catherine

hello!

i need some assistance on garbing for an elf. i have been searching for a fantasy creature, have some ear tips, but am not too comfortable with faerie. i am more at home in the woods, and natural hues.

i cannot find many full-body shots of the elven kind. i am leaning toward the short bodice and sweeping chemise with harem pants underneath with arm bands. perhaps some ripped-up fabric overskirt.

kind of like this:   http://www.moresca.com/product_info.php?products_id=16

can anyone give me guidance? pictures of yourselves, other?
thanks so much!

the only deal, im thinking more non-LOTR now. we are a pretty hot faire, and i thnk my ideas are going more toward a fairy-ish slant. am I totally lost, and should i just give in to the fairy side?   ???   :D  :D

thanks!!!

I have somehow ended up w/no pictures of my usual costume.

It sounds to me like you're on the right track.  The thing with elves, is, just like fairies, there are many different kinds of us.  Sounds like you want to be a woodelf?

Here are my suggestions/take on being an elf.  If you go with the short bodice/long chemise combo, I'd suggest making the chemise a bit fitted through the waist, or you may get lost in too much fabric.  Or, make the pants more fitted rather than blousy harem pants.  Think flowly, but slim, rather than flouncy ocean of fabric.  Some floaty is good, and helps with the "fae, but not fairy" look.  TOO much floaty will just get caught on trees and whatnot as you try to run through the forest.  Elves tend to be a bit more subtle w/magic than fairies, so the dress is a bit more practical than that of the fairies.

I usually wear a full bodice, either w/a bell sleeved shirt or just bell sleeves, 2 skirts, the under one split into 2 panels, the over one split in 4, with leggings under that, and tall boots.  If I've got my bow w/me, I usually add my archery gloves and bracers (worn over the sleeve on my shooting arm).

I don't know if it will work or not, but here is a link to a piccture of an early version of my garb: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=340458&id=612937251

And here's a picture of another wood elf costume I made:

thanks to you both!

heh!, i knew RfP would chime in!   i am still on the fence, fairy or elf, though. I am doing this to work the booth and not sure iof i want to deal with wings. maybe really small ones

elennare, I really like that! i am thinking on having the chemise pulled in by a belt that has feathers, so that will help the too much fabric thing. your link worked! and, i friend requested you, crazy belly-dancer chick in my pic.

thanks and i will post as i get things done!

You should just go your own way. As you may be able to tell from my avatar my ears are pointed but I'm not an elf and I'm tattooed in black (real) and silver (fantastical) but I'm not a faerie. Just do what feels right!

I also second doing your own thing.  Focus on the look you want, then work on categorizing it as elf/fae later.

Sorry to post a link to an entire album, but it wouldn't let me single out one photo. Anyway, the 2nd picture is my friend Kristi dressed as a Wood Elf. She took her favorite brown boots, a pair of tights, a short dress (it was grey, we dyed it green, but it didn't turn out the color she wanted), I made her cloak, and she ended up adding a long sleeved shirt for comfort.
I think it turned out great with the time limit, and resources we had at the moment.

I have a lovely garb from Moresca that fits my elven persona perfectly.

thank you both!! that is just lovely, queen !!

I wound up a fae in the long run, what can I say, glitter beckons!  but, with a few tweaks, it can be elven easily. I made most of the costume, with the exception of the bodice. i did go with a moresca khadija bodice, I saw them in person at GARF, and LOVED them!

i will have to post pictures when i get some better ones. Thanks to you both so much!
