Taking my first trip to sterling this summer

Cant wait.!  I was debating between Sterling and TUX but ended up picking Sterling.    Will be there for Pirate weekend.  My Wife wanted to go for Celtic weekend but I couldn't find a decent hotel room for that weekend.

Actually I looked at your thread  I ended up booking at the Pleasant Beach Hotel in Fairhaven. (they got really nice reviews and the place looks great)

We might stay a couple of days past the weekend so your listing of all of the restaurants will come in handy.

Welcome to Sterling, sorry I will miss you, but the Lady Lillian has to work that weekend. You should think about coming the following weekend, it looks like it will be fun. I will be starting a pool on how long before Irish implodes trying to chase down all the kilt wearing men that weekend. Of course there may be a little competition there between her and Lady Amy. Now the weekend you are coming watch out for Captain Amy of the Feisty Lady. She has been known to keel haul crew for spilling her grog.

(  although i may flog  two people on here...points at Xantrawler and  irish.  )  I will be there both days for pirate weekend.  Look for  tall  female with auburn color hair, wearing a black pirate jacket  with  red trim, a  red vest, black skirt, black tricorn hat, and a long sword, mug, and  flintlock pistol.

also i'm not sure about this year , but in years pass Pirates weekend  was the same  weekend  as Harborfest in Oswego, and they usually have  fireworks at night over  the harbor  in oswego  for harborfest.

Awesome fireworks would be great!  I will be sure to look for you - I'll be Wearing a black and silver doublet, white shirt with black slashed sleeves and black pants with white slashes.  The Mrs will be wearing this funky red/olive/bronze Corset and skirt  with a white chemise with huge dagger sleeves.

Sterling is a fun faire. Don't miss the parade! Start at the bottom by the joust list and wave to the queen. Watch and follow the others running mad up the hill and wave to her again. Run up one more level and get in 3 royal waves. I followed a group last year during my visit and got quite the workout.  Do the slide.  Go to the pub at the bottom of the slide. There is always a group of people to engage in conversation. Did I mention I'm not a regular? I just showed up one weekend 3 years ago and met the nicest, happiest rennies ever and each year I go back and meet up with another group. During a lull in shows and feeling thristy I hit the open pub at the top. I had 3 new friends in 5 minutes. These are good people. I did have someone snark on my garb there but I WAS wearing a complete camo print bodice, chemise and skirt.  Oswego is a very nice town and in the city's "harbor looking" area there are a bunch of little sidewalk cafes. Unless they have gone the way of King Arthurs. I love PARF's invasion each year to Sterling.

I got tired just reading your description - I think I need some ale now  Im sure I will have a great time!


I Like Parf quite a bit (Pittsburgh is my home Faire) I went there for the first time 2 years ago.  I will be going back to Parf October 8th & 9th.

harbor fest is july 29 - 31, same weekend of pirate's weekend. i wont be at faire that saturday, but will be there sunday. i hope you enjoy sterling! it is an endearing faire!

You *do* want to plan your day to minimize trips up and down and up and down and up and down....

We don't refer to "upper shire" and "lower shire" just for colorful speech!

Hills are not a problem we have tons of those where I live.      The Pittsburgh faire is fairly hilly as well actually, tho I imagine sterling is a good deal larger than Pittsburgh.

We're heading up July 16/17th for the heros weekend.  I'll be the annoying one shooting marshmallows with a very cool catapult. The others will be dressed the hilt and I'll look like I rolled in a rag bag.

Just to clear uo the hero's weekend is not  fantasy hero's like  some people are thinking. It is  a weekend  to honor   firemen, policemen and  the military. just thought i would pass that on to evryone.

Marshmallow gun..my son has one of  those. Just a  word of  advice  though.... I  can tell you that security will probablly not let you in the gate with it. No guns  allowed   even toy  ones . I wear  a  sword when i protray my pirate captain charcter, but security checks it at  the gate  to make sure it is secured in its holder( peace  tied ) and i acn't pull it out of the holder.
Plus um  some people in garb  especially good  noble  garb would  frown upon getting hit with a marshmallow and probally report you and have you removed from the  grounds. just a word of  advice ! other wise  have  fun and  enjoy !
