This is my bargain way of drinking at fest with usually the stuff referring to loki which of course packs a punch. I prefer to have my mead at home in a nice glass glass to really enjoy it.

The wife and I have been drinking Black Velvets" lately -half Guinness & half cider

(although some people call stout & champagne a black velvet)

Hi Naween - here in Ontario we occasionally get Moniack mead from Scotland but that is a very seldom occurrence.  It is very thick and dark - almost a liqueur.
It's always time for Chardonnay!

I know Guinness and cider as a Black Velveteen, whereas Guinness and champagne is a Black Velvet.

(one of my favorite drinks, BTW... ;D)

I am partial to the Snake Bite, Harp and Cider (only really good with Strongbow though, other ciders are kind of gross with Harp)

mmmmm...tasty.

I know I'm not a MN person, but a lot of you know me and also my hubby Steve.

Guess what he did yesterday?  He ordered a case of Chaucer's mead from his wine salesman just because he knows I love it.  Isn't that sweet?

I'm gonna keep him.

And if any of our friends from MN happen to be down our way, stop in for a glass of mead!!

Awww, Renee, that is so sweet.   He's definitely a keeper!
The next time you have a glass, think of us here paying six bucks for a slightly-larger-than-a-dixie cup full.

I had always heard of Guinness and Cider as a Black & Gold, (aka, Black Apple) which is Half Guinness Stout and half hard cider.

...and a Black Velvet (aka, Black and Red) is made from stout beer (often Guinness) and white, sparkling wine, traditionally champagne, and a Red Velvet is Half Guinness, Half Raspberry Cider Jack...

...I've never heard of a Black Velveteen, that's new to me.

I know that there are about 50 different "Beer Cocktails" that can be created using various beers and wines...

So... what would a half Guinness and half Egyptian Mead be?  (They're quite tasty).

Well look at this way, velvet=champagne, and the cheaper version of velvet would be velveteen, so velveteen=cider.   ;D
