My friends and I want to start a Renaissance Club type organization at school... We don't know exactly what we want to do with it though... Like the guys would be interested in the fighting reinactiment and I could do the garbing, but we don't know like a purpose for ourselves... any ideas?

You could possibly do it to learn more about the history. So trying historically accurate garb making and sword fighting.

Try to get a history teacher to sponser your group. Perhaps they could give you more guidance on the direction you would like to take your club.

We were kind of thinking of that to legitimze ourselves..

"we will be exploring the history of the Renaissance through the daily lives and activities that people in the era partook in and the culture they created"

Because the school likes things like that ;) lol... This all started as a joke, Hey we should totally try to get in at the group rate at MDRF by pulling a bunch of random college kids and calling ourselves the GMU Renaissance Guild I mean trips to the renaissance festival? what better field trip is there? and it would give us an excuse to visit other faires along the east coast! lol

At my old college there was an SCA group. I looked into it, but didn't wind up joining. Who knows, maybe your college already has a renaissance type of group already. At my college other organizations that had nothing to do with the renaissance would group together to get discount tickets from the renaissance faire too.

Good luck finding a sponser.

that's the thing.... i don't necessarily want to do an SCA because I don't think everyone is going to be concerned with H/A I think we want like a Just for Fun type thing as well... I need to see who else will join, I only know of one other here at GMU that Ren's hopefully we can get some more interested tho!

Grand Valley has something like that. Maybe you could contact them for advice.

we're thinking of being the RENinactors: partying like it's 1599

That's a cute line. I hope you are able to make it the organization you hope it will be.

I've thought about organizing something up here at UNT as I've slowly met more and more people that go to Renaissance festivals regularly but don't know other people that do. Just maybe a good reason for a bunch of us girls to get together to work on costumes together. Do research on things, work on accent and character development, maybe?

Keep me updated on how it goes Kat! :) I wish you good luck!
Still Meggers, just a little more grown up now. :)
