why is there no camping... there seems to be plenty of room for camping... is it a city ordinance? Does anyone know the answer?

that is unfortunate... i did find 35 acres for sale just about 1 mile down the street from Scarby... but land is pricey! I just feel bad that all the people how travel so far to go to faire and spend so much money on travel, admission, food, etc. and still have to pay so much for a hotel room... luckily I moved back to Waxahachie in 06, i'm from here and worked the faire way back in 85.

Most people use the state parks in the area. Seems to work out well for them.

I would not say "it works well", but it's doable to camp at the parks.  They are all a good 30-40 minutes awa from Scarby though and we've never been able to run into any other rennies at the camping places!!

well if we could get 212 rennies to come up with $1000 each or 424 rennies with $500 each there is 35 acres about 1 mile from Scarby... imagine owning your own camp ground... I know it's a crazy idea... but those kinda things just pop into my head... i live about 5 minutes from Scarby and I'd camp there

here's what the ad says:

Buying the land is one thing --- but paying the yearly Taxes, Insurance, and Utilities is a whole 'nother kettle of fish ...   :o

hmmm... my dream didn't think of that  :(

I LOVE your dream!!  It's too bad we don't have a super rich rennie out there willing to make Scarby even more awesome...  But actually onsite camping really is still better cause you don't have to use your car all weekend long...

tis safer to stumble back to a tent than to drunk drive to a tent.

Perhaps if everyone picked the same camp site, we could run a shuttle at the end of faire with volunteers from the group.

plus we could have the fun of a central campsite for meet and greet.

There is no camping in Waxahachie. In fact, from what I remember the twins telling me, they had to camp all the way out at Lake Bardwell which is at least 30 mins away.
Still Meggers, just a little more grown up now. :)

Lake Bardwell is the rennie camp of choice as I know it.
I have been there a few times, and as beautiful as it is it doesn't compare to camping onsite at the faire.
I now camp at the super 8 lol
Quite honestly it is a nice change of pace to do that. We usually try to find a group who wants to go in on a block of rooms and get a better rate. If done that way it isn't so horrible. And the fun part there is hanging out by the pool after a hot day at faire... that is just plain good!
If you want to meet anyone at Bardwell, I highly recommend camping as near to the party pavillion as possible. For the most part one ren-group or another rents that thing each weekend and I have never been turned away from it yet.

*and most of those groups have had rum... Bonus!*

I generally tow my hotel room behind my truck.  (all of those black light expose's  of the stuff in motel rooms got to me)  - It looks like there are two or three different camp sites at Bardwell - any idea which of those is preferred by festival goers?
