Lambdastar...  Take a deep breath and slow down.  You're going to be OK.

I'm afraid I can't help you with a place to live but this is a good place to talk it out and regroup.  Start checking the paper for an apartment.  Probably more "rooms for rent" these days with more people trying to supplement their incomes.  Perhaps Craigslist will have some unexpected options for you.   Do you have a church you like to attend?  Or a community center?  Those are also good places to find help.

Please, just take it slowly and things will find a way to work out.   Remember, it is often the bumpiest road that leads to the best view.

I highly recommend rent.com! (that's where I found my place to live..and I even got a $100 visa gift card after I moved in to use wherever I wanted). Take it day by day...pack a little here and there...start with the things you don't need everyday. Try a box a day...it's way less overwhelming when it comes to crunch time and needing to have everything boxed and ready to go. As for places to get boxes..grocery stores and liquor stores are perfect options!

Stop by an Apartment Search location.  They are all licensed realtors and have strict rules about who can post a vacancy.  They're the most legit, so you can be assured of safety.

Ouch.   I can't really offer any good advise but I can think good thoughts for you and hope your transition goes as smooth as possible.  I can't imagine packing up a place you have lived in that long.  Where does one even start after that long?  Flylady has some good ideas for packing up your house.  Good luck.

big hugs!
I don't know if you are on the MNRF Friends listserve or not, but people often post info about needing a place or having a place to rent there. If you're not on the list, I'd be more than willing to post something for you, someone may have the perfect situation and you just don't know it yet.

Please hang in there. It sounds like you will be going through a big change of life. I am not a big change person but everyone I have had to do has always been better once said and done.
I will keep my ears open for any place that would work for you.
Good luck.

Just remember that everything happens for a reason, and sometimes things fall apart for other things to fall into place.

It will all be okay!!  It will all work out soon. ;)

Hey Gerald- I was casting about the Forums whilst doing my laundry and came across your posting. First thing, and this is very important, remember to breathe. Second, there are some very good ideas posted here. Third... you will survive. I just went through the same thing... after 27 years and 10 months of living in the same apartment, I had to move in 10 days. That included finding an apartment. My landlord had passed away and after a year the estate was settled. A developer bought the house and land with intentions of putting in 20 town houses. I lived in the upstairs apartment with the downstairs apartment being empty. I started to sift through things, throwing out stuff or finding it a home. Everything else was boxed and stored on a pallet at work. At this point I still hadn't found an apartment. Then the new owner offered to let me stay another year. Huzzah! However, the terms of the new lease made me responsilble for the WHOLE HOUSE, YARD and DRIVEWAY. That was not going to happen!!! I thought I might have to move into one of the apartment complexes near the University of Delaware (NOT). I got lucky and found a private apartment much closer to work and far nicer than the old one. I still had furniture, clothes and other items to move but I did it in 10 days with minimal help. I know it's tough as an older guy (I'm 60) to be uprooted but by golly I wish I had done this sooner. Turn your depression into resolve. This is an opportunity... seize it. Mark my words- after all is said and done, you will amaze yourself. Best Wishes..............  Felix the Bubble Wright
