the soul of sherwood

i think money and a business plan can make sherwood a financial success; but it will not make it filled with heart and soul.  that comes from the passions of many of you.  it comes from a desire to create something extremely special from our past experiences and our dreams--our desires and our senses.

please take an active role in making sherwood what it should and can and will become.

it is a business, yes, but it is also very much about the organic community and fellowship and art of many welling up for years to blosom into something extremely powerful and creative.

from the start i spoke about handing each of you a paint brush and asking each to make your art upon this canvas.  and i see so many of you doing it.  and i thank you for your efforts.

we are divided creatures...torn between the world of matter and the world of spirit.  

the faire is that bridge
it is where we allow the spirit to be freed from the bonds of this material existence, yet, within it simultaneously.

we can transcend time and space
we can be in the here and now,
yet, step back into an illusion of yesterday when times were simpler

even capitalism is easier within the faire grounds.
less pretense
less commercialism
just good products, many of them connected to our own being by craft and art
marketed without presumption and packaging

and we dress and act as we desire
and we sing songs from deep within our hearts
and we join clans--the extended family structures our society has long since abandoned
and we sit outside at nights and share in each others company...telling stories, laughing, crying

it is our chosen path
this renfaire life
and in it, we find the balance

Can we make a point to maybe write some of that on the gate, SOMEWHERE on the grounds? it just gave me chills, because yes, that sums it up perfectly...
