Quote from: Charlotte Rowan on August 23, 2010, 08:36:56 AMI happened to see the ad in one of those too. It was the Twin Cities coupons newspaper thingy, and actually there was a coupon for $5.00 off for the first 2 weekends, I think. I cut it out and brought it to work. Hopefully, whoever took it will actually use it!

Another thing we apparently won't see.... Tillie's Bean?? The coffee booth is now run by a place called Espresso on Main (?). It's not clear if they are CKC, but I don't think so because their coffee is actually good. I will miss Tillie's though! :(

I dunno why Tillie's Bean isn't there.  No word on who runs the building, now.  Anyone know?

Went to the MNRF yesterday but sadly the The Flammables were not there - what happened! :'(  Hopefully the fireguys found something much more lucrative.  Any chance they will come back for the closing gate show?

From what I have heard the fire guys will not be back - not even for a closing gate show.  Someone did volunteer to take their place - other than that I don't have any other information.
Everything goes better with giggles

I'm sorry but that is just wrong since they started the tradition and have done it for lots of years

My understanding is that it is still an independent booth, not CKC, but haven't heard who took over.

I assume they just couldn't come to a contract understanding with the artistic director. Dane had posted something on his Facebook page about it, but took it down. It's not the first time, back when it was Dane and Dan there was a season they weren't at fest. I'm pretty sure I saw Dane's partner JD(?) doing a solo street character as what looked like a jester in black.

There's enough other amateur fire eaters on site that it wouldn't surprise me if they got together for a "blowout" at closing gate -especially later in the run when it's darker at closing cannon

The Fandazzi's do a fire show, and JB is playing on street this year.

I believe I had heard CKC owns it now.  Don't remember who told me though.

I'll have to try to find out... if it's not independent, I'm totally paying them with food coupons instead of cash!
Masquerading as a normal person day after day is exhausting.

It could also be something in between: owned by fest, but run by someone else. -A couple years ago they were trying to get some volunteer groups to run some of the food booths in return for a percentage of the sales as a "donation" to the group.

Most of the booths are this way, now.  They have a list of booths available and the typical 'rake' the operator could expect.  All completely in festival's favor, of course.  The operator won't make much more than if they were CKC employee AND CKC does not need to pay the SSI and additional taxes.  Actually quite a great idea.

Good news ... I just heard that Asbestos AND Bik ARE doing the closing gate show !!!!!

This was Piz Poor's last weekend at fest.  He and his wife have a previously scheduled vacation for the next 2 weeks.  He is a good man, and I hear his show is a hoot.  PLEASE bring him back next uear!
