LOL... well, I wouldn't want to eat actual Methodists... I'd probably never be able to dance again!!! (J/K... please, no flaming torches!!!)

It starts with a flour and crushed walnut crust that is pre-baked, then alternating layers of chocolate pudding, vanilla pudding, sweetened cream cheese and whipped cream, with chopped walnuts sprinkled in between, then refrigerated over night to allow the layers to "marry"... mmmmm...

My grandmother (who is a Methodist) makes this for every holiday! I think it's their replacement for sex... and it could almost work!!! (but only almost...  ::) )

OOOH!  I was wondering what it was, too, and now I know -exactly- what you're talking about.  Just had it yesterday, actually.  But we call it Seven Layer Delight.  =D

It's probably called something different in every region of the country, and there's no telling what it may be called on other countries!!! Methodist Pudding is what it's always been called here, but that's just in this area...

Where are the rules that say Methodist cant dance?   :o???  I thought that was the Baptist?  ??? Do I need to go back through the lessons and ways of the Methodist again?  :( :-\

I thought she was referring to the fact that she'd be too stuffed after eating a whole Methodist to dance.  ::)
Well...that was my take on it anyways.  :P

Ummm... do you really wanna be tweaking my nose about dancing, of all things??? ROFL...   ::)

Pecan pie and Pumpkin pie both with a *ahem*, rum reduction. Sorry Teach, they don't survive long!

Scotch glazed ham. It won't survive long either. I'll have to snag some for sandwiches before it disappears!

Whatever else the rest of the family brings.

My brother is making dinner so all I need to bring is a dessert.
I plan on making a fruit salad: red grapes & green seedless grapes, mandarin oranges, maraschino cherries, bananas, Walnuts or Pecans with whipping cream and some cool whip to at a little firmness.  ;D

We will have the "Orphan Christmas" again this year.  Explanation:  I was an only child, and now both parents have been deceased for many years.  All my relatives live back East.  Steve is from England, and all his family is still there.  He is a chef, so for most of the first 20 years of our marriage, we moved every few years to different resorts when he took on a new job as either Executive Chef or Food and Beverage Director.

Chefs have sort of a clique.  Steve always had at least 4 or 5 people from the different places he worked come to work at his current job.  They all weren't there at the same time, but he had a core of about 8 other chefs who followed him around from time to time.  Also bringing wives, girlfriends, and kids.  Most of them didn't have family in the area, either, so we started the "Orphan Christmas."

A Christmas dinner at our house for all friends who didn't have family around to celebrate with.  We became each others' family.  We've had our restaurant in Galena for 9 years now, so we don't have a lot of chefs following us around anymore.  But we've continued the tradition.  All our friends locally who don't have a place to go for Christmas (Thanksgiving, too), we invite to have dinner with us.

On Thursday, we will eat spiral ham, home made applesauce, roasted parsnips, Steve's green bean casserole (he doctors it up with I don't know what, and it is incredible), home-made French bread, and mincemeat tarts (for him, I don't like them), and some kind of chocolate-y overload for my tastes and the other guests.  There will be 7 of us this year, including the 16 day old baby of Steve's assistant.

Man, I'm jealous!  Just Nyte and I alone this year, and we haven't had time to go to the grocery store in about two weeks, so most likely it will be leftover pizza and/or roast beef sammiches on Christmas Eve/Christmas day.... :D

It looks as if for me it will be a tin of soup or spam! It's just me and the cat this year for Christmas. I find this to be the most depressing and lonley time of the year, I so wish I could just by pass it and move right on to March.

My son had a gift certificate for a 16 pound turkey, from his work. We are roasting the turkey. Also making mashed potatoes, stuffing, sweet corn, Christmas cookies and pecan pie. Other family members are bringing cranberries or salad and pies.
Some of us are Methodists, some have become a lot more liberal and wont' amend their ways. Ahem.  ;D
I have had that chocolate pudding dessert, but it wasn't called that. I liked it a lot. I think it had a more "creative" name, such as "chocolate pudding dessert." LOL.

We had something like that when I was growing up. We called it Missisippi Mud Pudding.

DB, if you and Nyte get up early and leave Minneapolis area, you could make it to us for dinner by 3 p.m.  You can stay over in our guestroom if you like, too.  I really mean it, so renmail me and I can give you directions.  We'd love to have you.

Charlie, I think maybe it's a little too far from where you live to drive to our Christmas dinner!

Lady Renee, that's absolutely spectacular of you to offer!  We'd love to come for dinner, but unfortunately we only have Christmas day off, and have to be back to work early the next day.  No rest for the weary, I'm afraid.

But thank you none the less!
