Le Haut-Andlau in France.
This castle perched up on the hilltops offers a great view over the vineyards and the Black Forest. Built in the 14th century and inhabited up until 1806.

Ponferrada Castle in Spain was a castle held by the Knights Templar on the old pilgrim road. Known in Spain as El Camino de Santiago de Compostela, untold thousands of pilgrims passed beneath these massive castle walls on their way to the Holy Land.




IN this shot the castle is lit for a festival.

i look at these castles  and never seizes  to amaze me how  they were  built by hand. They did not have the tools  and  machines  we have  today.     A true talent  and skill, that is  sadly  being  lost  today. We need to bring back more of  the old  skills.

Carmarthen Castle in Wales.
The first castle started in 1093 down river was destroyed, but it was then rebuilt on a Roman fort site in 1109. Rebuilding in stone started in 1181 and was fully completed in 1233. It was badly damaged after the Civil War, and most of the remaining structure, apart from the gatehouse, was demolished in the 18th century and has since been built over.

Castle of the Moors in Portugal, also known as Castelo dos Mouros.

They say don't go to this Castle unless you are in shape. It seems like a million stairs to reach the highest tower.

Stronghold Castle, Oregon, Illinois

This Tudor-style castle was completed in 1930 as a summer home for newspaper publisher William Strong. The Stronghold Conference Center, operated by the Presbytery of Blackhawk, holds an Olde English Faire every October, with the Castle as the centerpiece.
